The purpose of this learning module is to help instructors consider how crowdfunding can serve as a meaningful way to build culturally rich, entrepreneurial projects. Such projects — which include film, music, publications, video and board games, art, performance, and technology — invite amateurs to not only articulate their vision of the world, but to ask others to participate in it, telling their story publicly in such a way that their network feels compelled to support them. Co-Creating Equity: Culturally Responsive Angolan New Mainer Pod Model Childcare For An Inclusive Health Community, Marnie Morneault, Azenaide Pedro

Lewiston, Maine is home to multiple refugee groups, including the Angolan New Mainer community. This poster describes a project to support co-creation of culturally responsive inclusive childcare settings. Maine UCEDD staff worked within the Angolan community utilizing culturally humble techniques to identify drivers and barriers for creating care settings, constructed solutions to barriers within systems, and provided support for equitable childcare as a component of a healthy community.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had significant impacts on the availability and demand for childcare. San Diego County, like much of the U.S., has historically had a much smaller supply of licensed childcare than there are children who need care. The pandemic has made this gap larger as the childcare supply has shrunk. Childcare providers have had to endure closures, new and constantly changing health guidelines, and uncertain revenue streams. This report, prepared by the Caster Center, is a study of local child care conditions in San Diego County and includes an analysis of the demographics of families in need of child care; San Diego County’s self-sufficiency income level; availability of, and enrollment in, subsidized child care; and the cost of providing child care. This report originated from a required independent analysis of local child care conditions for Bill AB377, authorizing the County of San Diego to develop a pilot child care subsidy plan that takes into account the county’s unique demographic and economic environment.

Computer Information Systems Faculty Publications

Conceptualization in theory development has received limited consideration despite its frequently stressed importance in Information Systems research. This paper focuses on the role of construct clarity in conceptualization, arguing that construct clarity should be considered an essential criterion for evaluating conceptualization and that a focus on construct clarity can advance conceptualization methodology. Drawing from Facet Theory literature, we formulate a set of principles for assessing construct clarity, particularly regarding a construct’s relationships to its extant related constructs. Conscious and targeted attention to this criterion can promote a research ecosystem more supportive of knowledge accumulation.

International students’ enrollment at academic institutions in the U.S. has expanded in the last decade. Plenty of research studies show that these international students experience acculturation difficulties in adapting to both academic performance and residence life (Gebhard, 2012). This study aimed at exploring the cultural, linguistic, and emotional stresses that international students experienced as well as the adjustment they g through to adapt at an American institution.
