Maritime Archaic Spearpoints : A New Examination Of Their Context And Chronology, John Michael Garbellano

This research focuses on the morphology, chronology and provenience of nipple-based spearpoints found in Newfoundland and Labrador and their relationship to larger-scale cultural processes during the Archaic period of that Province. Nipple-based points are primarily thought to date between 7500-6000 B.P. and are associated with the early Maritime Archaic tradition, the earliest inhabitants of Newfoundland and Labrador. A recent find of a nipple-based point at the Stock Cove site (CkA1-3) in eastern Newfoundland could mean that part of the island was colonized earlier than previously thought.
