Euler Archive Spotlight: Translations Of Euler's Works To Languages Other Than English, Michael P. Saclolo

The Euler Archive is home to almost all of Euler’s original publications and roughly a quarter of them have accompanying translations to English. A small number of Euler’s works also have translations to a handful of other languages, namely, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Turkish that are available in the archive. We put a spotlight on these non-English translations in this issue.

In this paper Euler attempts to explain some features of the motion of the Moon using Newton’s inverse-square law of gravity. He describes the evidence in favor of Newton’s theory but also the lack of progress in the study of lunar motion due to the difficulty of the three-body problem, arising here since both the Sun and the Earth have large effects on the Moon. He proceeds to investigate the line of intersection between the planes of the Earth's orbit and the Moon's orbit, as well as the angle between the two planes.

Music & Synesthesia: An Exploration Of Synesthesia And Its Relation To Musical Perception, Raquel S. Johnson

This research investigates synesthesia and its impact on musical perception. Synesthesia is the multimodal sensory phenomenon in which the stimulation of one sensory modality generates the experience of a second, otherwise unrelated sense. Discussed topics include: a description of synesthesia and its neurophysiological and perceptual characteristics, the historical conceptualization and documentation of synesthesia beginning with the ancient Greeks, and present-day scientific inquiry. This research explores three varying types of auditory synesthesia - chromesthesia (sound-to-color synesthesia), auditory-tactile synesthesia, and sound-gustatory/sound-olfactory synesthesia - and their multimodal sensory characteristics in relation to music. This is a brief note on Leonhard Euler's published German translation from the French of two memoirs read by Armand Henri Baudouin de Guémadeuc to the Paris Academy of Sciences in 1761 and published the same year. The memoirs report on observations made of the planet Venus, performed in Limoges, France by Jacques Montaigne, where he claimed to have detected a moon orbiting the Morning and Evening Star.

Eva Perón’s “moral reform” feminism inspired the beginnings of feminist expansion in Argentina by praising tradition and promoting gender equality. Peronism, a populist movement, mobilized the Argentine working-class after decades of socioeconomic oppression. Eva Perón empowered Argentine working-class women, her descamisadas (“shirtless ones”), in fiery speeches. Eva Perón’s feminism was exceptional for a first-wave feminist context:: working as a female politician in a traditionalistic nation. Though scholars have labeled Eva Perón a “non-feminist,” I contend that her approach to feminism was extraordinary because of her ability to craft rhetorical appeals to working-class women. The following pages comprise a translation of the whose sanskrit title was presumably the apramanartha sutra from the 'Yuan' Edition of 1290 A.D., together with an introduction by liu Ch'iu . It was first translated from the sanskrit into Chinese by Dharmagstayadas, a Buddhist monk from North Central India, with the help of Hui Piao, In 485 A.D. La the Wu Tang mountains. The purpose of the current study was to help amplify and analyze Black American elementary student voice in a post-2020 world. Discussions and writings were conducted at the students’ charter school in spaces where students voiced what it meant to be a Black American youth through both verbal and written means. The current qualitative study focused on using discussions and creative writing to help participants make sense of their identity in their school, community, and the United States. Singing is often used in music therapy sessions. It can provide physiological, psychological, and interpersonal benefits, and music therapists use it to address clinical goals including improved blood oxygenation, emotional expression, and increased interpersonal engagement between clients and their family members. Singing uniquely combines musicality, the body as the instrument, and meaningful words. Furthermore, the voice is a personal instrument, which makes musical engagement accessible to many people. Though singing can provide various benefits, many people experience singing negatively, especially when singing with an exposed voice, i.e., when others can hear their singing voice. The purpose of this study was to investigate the formation of music preference in an effort to identify specific ages when preferred music is likely to be discovered. One hundred one individuals participated in an online survey, answering questions about their listening habits, music preferences, and the social elements that contributed most to those preferences. Participants were asked to identify their current, second, and third favorite music at the time of the study and whether their preferences had changed over time. The purpose of this study was to determine if a short video presentation, about music therapy in behavioral health, had a positive effect on staff members’ beliefs about music therapy in that setting. A total of 26 staff members, from different departments, participated in the study and completed a pre- and post-presentation questionnaire. Responses were analyzed and compared to investigate whether the video had a positive effect on staff members’ beliefs about music therapy in behavioral health.
