Strange Fruit: Race, Terror, And The War On Terror, Lisa M. Tillmann Ph.D.

This poem examines drone warfare as a form of lynching. “Strange Fruit” links the deaths of Pakistani children Zeerak and Maria Khan to the murders of Thomas Shipp and Abram Smith, documented in the most infamous lynching photograph in U.S. history.

This is a creative thesis about the environment, culture and achievement of HBCUs. This thesis uses spoken word poetry as the creative means to express the past and present issues of HBCUs from a personal perspective. The poetry is supported by contemporary analysis to further add to the conversation about the necessity of HBCUs.

Dante Gabriel Rossetti And The Romance Of Loss, Jane N. Cooper

Through paired poems and paintings, Dante Gabriel Rossetti explored the nature of Love—both physical and spiritual—as made evident by distance or absence. Influenced early by his familiarity with Dante Alighieri and a confluence of changing social and artistic attitudes, Rossetti transformed the dialogue around him to a more personal internal conversation, revealed by pen and brush. This paper examines the dynamic of that pervasive thread in Rossetti’s work through a discussion of the influences upon the artist, the artist’s effect upon important figures of mid- to late nineteenth century England, and the important relationships that shaped his discourse.
