The Devil Figure In Goethe, Boito, And Gounod, Shuang Yang
The Devil Figure In Goethe, Boito, And Gounod, Shuang Yang
Senior Projects Fall 2016
Faust written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is a worldwide famous master piece. It has been not only translated into many other languages, but also used as basis of other works such as opera, music piece, drama, movie and so on. After I read and watched Goethe’s Faust, Arrigo Boito’s opera Mefistofele and Charles Gounod’s opera Faust, I found that the drama’s protagonist is not the Faust what we think normally, instead it is actually another figure…

Senior Projects Fall 2016
If I asked you what was your favorite book? Who was your favorite actor? Or which candy did you like the most? You would answer; furthermore support your response with reason. That reason would be the philosophical aspect of your response. However, even if I, also with reason, refuted your argument, there’d still be this spark of ‘just because’ in you, and that is what I want to dedicate my project to – that little sparkle of ‘just because’ – little inner faith, belief, and ambiguous attraction that we have towards things.
Philosophy asks for practice. It is something that …

This project talks about Liszt’s Faust Symphony based on Goethe’s Faust. It traces carefully through the score. After reading this project, the reader will get to know more about the Faust Symphony. My senior project installation, Growth, is an exploration in pushing the boundaries between domestic space and the natural world. It exists in a state of surreality; when the human desire to control, contrive, and conquer nature is met with the inevitable power of nature to overcome.
I have always been fascinated by nature and the creatures that inhabit it, and over time this passion has grown to become a large part of who I am. About four years ago, I began to keep aquarium fish and was immediately …

My sculptures are representations of characters of home. The dimension between interdependence of form and formless, physical and nonphysical home, led me to look deeper into the nature of the act of defining and the unknown. Home will cease to exist if either physical or nonphysical home is omitted. There are no physical aspect of home without individuals forming ideas of a home. Likewise, there is no way of forming a home without the physical home for the individuals in which to be. We are creatures of form living in a physical world, while our mind and consciousness, which are …

Senior Projects Fall 2016
This project is a collection of writings about photography that vary stylistically from traditional academic essays to more formally imaginative pieces. It is structured around the understanding of art criticism as not solely a passive response to the artworks on which it is focused, but as a productive and valuable artistic gesture that exists independently of its source materials. Art criticism, though concerned primarily with the external, can be understood (also) as an autobiographical effort.
