Filmed Architecture: The Nature Of Vision, Theodore C. Grothe
Filmed Architecture: The Nature Of Vision, Theodore C. Grothe
Architecture Thesis Prep
"By researching the methods, technologies, theories, and criticism of motion film, one can begin to gain an understanding of these phenomena. Tha language of film becomes apparent, and can then be used in architectural discourse.
How can these methods and techniques begin to translate into the discipline of architecture? What can the discipline gain from them In what capacity can we begin to augment their affects on our perception of architecture, form, reality, and space?"

Going Under: The Metro And The Search For Oneself In Julio Cortázar's "The Pursuer" , Patricia E. Reagan
Studies in 20th & 21st Century Literature
Johnny's metaphysical experience on the metro in Julio Cortázar's "The Pursuer" catalyzes his perception. The metro incident and the ensuing commentary propel all the elements of the narrative. The metro facilitates the development of Johnny's character; relates his character to Charlie Parker; aids our comprehension of the relationship between the metro and Johnny's music; and establishes the metaphysical difference between Johnny and Bruno. The subway is also physical space in which Cortázar reveals a view of time perception in which chronological time succumbs to subjective time. Johnny's metacognitive search for the yonder marks a change in Cortázar's narrative preoccupations and …
An Investigation Of The Effects Of Perceived Feedback Accuracy On Performance, Ashley A. Gray
An Investigation Of The Effects Of Perceived Feedback Accuracy On Performance, Ashley A. Gray
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This study built upon the theoretical feedback process of Ilgen, Fisher and Taylor (1979), as refined by Kinicki, Prussia, Wu, & Mckee-Ryan (2004), to contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the mechanism underlying an individual's response to performance feedback. The feedback model implicates source credibility and the feedback-rich environment as critical elements in the process explaining recipient accuracy perceptions and responses. Thus the sign and perceived accuracy of performance feedback were investigated in a 3 x 3 (plus control) experimental design. One hundred fifty-six undergraduate students were randomly assigned to feedback conditions, in which they performed on a three-trial …
The Influence Of Performance Background On Instrumentalists' Ability To Discriminate And Label Cornet And Trumpet Timbre, Gary Compton
The Influence Of Performance Background On Instrumentalists' Ability To Discriminate And Label Cornet And Trumpet Timbre, Gary Compton
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This study was an examination of timbre discrimination and labeling, with specific consideration of the soprano-brass timbres of cornets and trumpets. This study sought to determine whether instrumentalists differed in their ability to label and discriminate cornet and trumpet timbres, and whether these abilities were influenced by the instrumentalists' performing instrument and years of playing experience. Wind, brass and percussion players (n=100) from existing instrumental groups in the Tampa Bay area participated in the study. These groups were collegiate trumpet majors from a large public university school of music, a collegiate wind ensemble from a private university, and a brass …
A Plea For A Cognitive Iconology Within Visual Culture, Ian Verstegen
A Plea For A Cognitive Iconology Within Visual Culture, Ian Verstegen
Contemporary Aesthetics (Journal Archive)
A place is needed for a 'cognitive iconology' within "visual culture." Like Logical Positivism before it, visual culture must reexamine its tacit assumption that conflation of psycho-sociological contributions to visual meaning is an adequate methodology, and that sociologism is a worthwhile overriding philosophy. Cognitive iconology isolates the psychological contribution to the study of images and does not monopolize it but isolates the foundational basis for it on which narrower interpretations must be built. With examples from the work of Titian, it is shown how the cognitive and 'cultural' contributions must work together to make meaning. Using the philosophy of Maurice …

L'Habitació Del Nen O La Insuportable Elusivitat De L'Experiència, Sharon G. Feldman
