The stage is set for the next generation. Our classrooms are filled with young people who have lived through a pandemic, grown up on social media, and counted standardized testing methods in their sleep instead of sheep. Students should be encouraged to ask questions and be curious about who they are and what is going on in the world. By incorporating drama education into their daily curriculum, students can see themselves in positive ways. The opportunities are endless when the teacher believes in them. This presentation will highlight my departmental honors thesis. During the fall and spring semester I researched, programmed, and assisted in the installation of the light lab in the Theatre Design and Technology Studio. This presentation will go over the first stages where I researched different intelligent lighting fixtures to find their different properties and ways to install. This presentation then visits the process where I programed the lighting fixtures into a computer software for them to be used and assist in the system installation of the lighting fixtures in the space. My focus on costume design began during my sophomore year at Bridgewater State University. It all started with volunteering to work on a show during a time when I needed a creative outlet. I was taught how to manipulate thermoplastics to create masks for the production, Conference of the Birds. My work on that show paved the way for even more creativity and learning. As an actor, I have performed in more than twenty plays and worked with ten different directors over the years. The outcomes of these performances have varied, and so has the effectiveness of the different approaches I have experienced. As an early career director, I am working to find my own creative voice as well as my personal style of directing and communicating with actors. The purpose of this process is to address the relationship between the actor and the director and how this can best serve a production from the rehearsal process and into performances.
