The purpose of this study was to determine for which of the following primary reasons students in the public junior colleges of the State of California enrolled in classes in beginning drawing in the second semester of the 1960-1961 academic year. Student motivation was assumed to encompass these incentives:

It is the purpose of this study to test the validity of art aptitude tests on the high school level by (1) comparing the interpretation of raw scores with the teacher's grades given to students in the art department; (2) by correlation of the tests between art ability and intelligence measured by intelligence tests; and (3) by correlations of the seven tests used in this study.
