Jesus Is Enough: Love, Hope, And Comfort In The Storms Of Life, Claudia May
Faculty Books
When stormy trials hit us, our recollection of Jesus' faithfulness can fade as worry, anger, jealousy, fear, sickness, stress, and unforgiveness threaten to rob us of the love and hope that can be found in Jesus. And yet we can experience comfort in the womb of these stormy seasons. Pondering on the stories surrounding Jesus' life presents us with practical wisdom on how to respond to the turbulent episodes we encounter. Jesus' teachings can rejuvenate and instill within us a sense of hope in his love. If we allow him, Jesus can be enough for us, in and out of …
Voices In French Fiction: A Journey Of Self-Discovery, Marlene Ladouceur
Voices In French Fiction: A Journey Of Self-Discovery, Marlene Ladouceur
Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)
The purpose of this project was to write a novella in French, where the protagonist's identity is a creation of the place where she lives and the multiplicity of voices that interact with her. This author researched various French works of fiction and folktales from Québec, Canada, Martinique, and South Louisiana. These stories functioned as background and examples of an individual's need and necessity to affirm its identity, as the individual relates to land and nature, through the creative act of storytelling. Further, this author researched fiction's element of voice and specifically, how land and nature obtain a voice. Likewise, …

Languages, Philosophy, and Communication Studies Faculty Publications
This study compared the effectiveness of 2 types of patriotic messages with a warmth/ ingratiation message and a control condition on restaurant tipping. Two female food servers waited on 100 parties eating dinner. When diners were finished with their meals, servers left them 1 of 4 messages on their checks: “Have a Nice Day,”“God Bless America,”“United We Stand,” or no message. Results indicated that parties who received the “United We Stand” message left significantly higher tips than did those receiving no message or the “Have a Nice Day” message. This study examined the effects of tattooing on perception of a male's and a female's credibility and attractiveness. 74 undergraduates viewed a photograph of a tattooed or nontattooed male or female model and then rated dimensions of the models' credibility and attractiveness. Analysis indicated that, although the models' attractiveness ratings were not affected by having a tattoo, their credibility ratings were generally lower when wearing a tattoo than when not wearing one.

Consumer Persuasion: The Use Of Evidence When Negotiating The Price Of A New Automobile, John S. Seiter, Debora L. Seiter
Languages, Philosophy, and Communication Studies Faculty Publications
This study examined whether consumers’ use of evidence affected the price at which car salespersons offered to sell a vehicle. Two versions of a message–one containing evidence about the wholesale/invoice price of a vehicle and the other containing no evidence–were e-mailed to 134 sales managers at different Toyota dealerships. The prices offered by salespersons were collected and analyzed. Results indicated that sales managers who had received messages with evidence offered to sell the vehicle for a significantly lower price than did sales managers who received no evidence. These results, their implications, and avenues for future research are discussed.

Audience Perceptions Of Candidates’ Appropriateness As A Function Of Nonverbal Behaviors Displayed During Televised Political Debates, John S. Seiter, Harry Weger Jr.
Languages, Philosophy, and Communication Studies Faculty Publications
Compared to televised debates using a single-screen format, such debates using a split screen presenting both debaters simultaneously show viewers the nonverbal reactions of each debater's opponent. The authors examined how appropriate or inappropriate such nonverbal behaviors are perceived to be. Students watched one of four versions of a televised debate. One version used a single-screen format, showing only the speaker, whereas the other three versions used a split-screen format in which the speaker's opponent displayed constant, occasional, or no nonverbal disagreement with the speaker. Students then rated the debaters' appropriateness. Analysis indicated that the opponent was perceived to be …
