This review discusses Derr, Chawla, and Mintzer's Placemaking with children and youth: Participatory strategies for planning sustainable communities. The text sheds light into a gap in urban and community planning---inclusion of children and youths in the design of their built environment. The text seeks to change discourse by instructing current and future city planners, architects, industrial and interior designers, interior decorators, landscape architects, contractors, government officials, and educators in engaging the children and youths of their communities in design, decision-making, and development to create truly sustainable communities that meet the needs of all who live within them. Anti-Democratic Spaces And Impoverishment: Role Of Roads In Low-Income Residential Areas, Allison John, Mabel Allison, Dennis Ejike Amadi, Crispin Allison
NAKHARA (Journal of Environmental Design and Planning)
This article identifies the low-income group as eco-friendly in terms of their favoured transit systems. Despite the group's eco-friendly and sustainable attributes, they suffer the most in their use of urban spaces, in low-cost housings and in transportation planning, in particular the roads. There is corruption among others who push for road dominance in the infrastructure. There is a call for action in developing the following: greater transparency, democratic approaches, and compact developments with a rich juxtaposition of greenery enhancing pedestrian corridors. Rapid urbanization as a process of societal transformation and intensive architectural developments in urban areas in Tirana and Prishtina, as capital cities of Countries in transition in sense of achievements for community living there and their urban qualitative life. Considering the planning process and role of different partners towards urban prosperity, the urban developments during the last ten years in both capital cities, based on research done and presented in this paper, using comparison methodology on some contextual bases:
