Mary Colter was an architect who contributed to the regional styles of the American Southwest. Her methods and habits, both as collector and creator, set her apart from her contemporaries as an individual who fervently valued indigenous art and culture. She thoroughly researched Southwestern cultures and used their architectural forms and methods of construction as inspiration for her architecture for tourists. Colter honored Southwestern traditions through her careful research and attention to detail.
