Evaluation Of Pyrosequencing For Large-Scale Identificationof Plant Species (Grasses As A Model), Nadia Haider Jan 2015

Evaluation Of Pyrosequencing For Large-Scale Identificationof Plant Species (Grasses As A Model), Nadia Haider

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Grasses (Poaceae) are among the most important and widely cultivated plants. Identification of grass species using morphological characters is a difficult task for nonspecialists, and it is not always an accurate method. DNA-based molecular markers have been widely used as an alternative towards more accurate identification of plant species. The molecular method that can be effective for large-scale identification of grass species, however, must satisfy requirements for specific amplification of DNA and reveal enough variability to distinguish species. The goal of this study was to evaluate the ability of pyrosequencing to detect SNP polymorphisms for an optimal discrimination of grass …

Generation Of Transgenic Sugar Beet (Beta Vulgarism L.) Overexpressing The Polygalacturonase Inhibiting Protein 1 Of Phaseolus Vulgaris (Pvpgip1) Through Agrobacterium-Mediated Transformation, Reza Mohammadzadeh, Mostafa Motallebi, Mohamadreza Zamani, Zahra Moghaddassi Jahromi, Peyman Norouzi, Manuel Benedetti, Giulia De Lorenzo

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Numerous diseases caused by fungal pathogens influence the annual production of sugar beet. In order to obtain a plant resistant to fungi, genetic transformation has been applied to the sugar beet. To invade a plant tissue, phytopathogenic fungi produce several cell wall-degrading enzymes (CWDEs); polygalacturonases (PGs) are pathogenicity factors produced at the earlier stages of a fungal infection that depolymerize the homogalacturonan. One of the strategies used by plants to limit the degradation of the cell wall polysaccharides by fungal CWDEs is the production of proteinaceous inhibitors. Against fungal, microbial, and insect PGs, plants produce cell wall-associated polygalacturonase-inhibiting proteins (PGIPs). …
