Introduction: Breastsleeping, defined as cosleeping while breastfeeding, is a practice commonly employed in breastfeeding families. However, literature examining this concept, its prevalence, and related education for safe breastsleeping is scant. Provider’s attitudes surrounding breastsleeping play an essential role in practice and outcomes when caring for breastfeeding patients and families. Background: Postpartum depression is a major depressive disorder that can occur anytime during pregnancy and for up to a few weeks after giving birth. Postpartum depression affects a significant proportion of women who have given birth, regardless of the birth outcomes. Mothers who had their babies admitted into the NICU face a different postpartum experience than mothers who had healthy babies, which increases their risk for developing postpartum depression.

Background: The rate of cesarean has significantly increased over the last decade with labor dystocia being the most common indicator for primary cesarean deliveries. This diagnosis was of labor dystocia was first established in the 1950’s by Emmanual A. Friedman. Due to the stark rise in cesareans, a landmark paper by Zhang challenged his definition of labor dystocia and changed the cesarean guidelines by adjusting the parameters that defined labor dystocia. In 2014, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) introduced these new guidelines with the aim of reducing the rate of cesareans.

This integrative literature review seeks to identify a correlation between an expectant mothers’ lack of familial support and lower socioeconomic status and their newborn baby’s hospital admission(s). Various journals and research studies demonstrate that when mothers have added support from community doulas, both mother and baby tend to have a more positive experience. Background: Maternal mortality ratio (MMR) in the United States in 2015 was 26.4, higher than many other developed countries. Maternal deaths due to hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are on the rise, including chronic hypertension. Chronic hypertension is defined as blood pressure greater than or equal to 140/90 mmHg before pregnancy or during the first 20 weeks of gestation. This condition occurs in up to 5% of pregnancies which are more likely to result in adverse maternal outcomes.
