The possible variables that influenced the WVTR result were selected from the technical expertise of the people involved in the project, the analysis in the printing process with the application of directed ...

Third Party Risk Management And Cyber Supply Chain Risk Management, Jerald Garner 2021 University of Arkansas, Fayetteville

Third Party Risk Management And Cyber Supply Chain Risk Management, Jerald Garner

Operations Management Presentations

Today’s business environment continues to be a challenge. Businesses whether small, or large leverage third-party vendors to provide critical services like data handling (security, transmitting, and storage), cloud storage/applications, and systems security monitoring.

Each business must ask themselves a few simple questions about one of their most valuable assets “Data”. If or when it leaves your secure working environment:

  • How secure is your customer data in transit and storage?
  • Do your third-party vendors handle your “critical information”?
    • Provide a secure environment for processing?
    • Comply with a proven Cyber Security Framework?
    • Perform a “Due Diligence” on-boarding step for the ...

Thin Safety Margin: The Sefor Super-Prompt-Critical Transient Experiments, Ozark Mountains, Arkansas 1970–1971, Jerry Havens, Collis Geren 2021 University of Arkansas, Fayetteville

Thin Safety Margin: The Sefor Super-Prompt-Critical Transient Experiments, Ozark Mountains, Arkansas 1970–1971, Jerry Havens, Collis Geren

Arkansas Scholarly Editions

Thin Safety Margin charts the history of SEFOR, a twenty-megawatt reactor that operated for three years in the rural Ozark Mountains of Arkansas as part of an internationally sponsored program designed to demonstrate the Doppler effect in plutonium-oxide-fueled fast reactors. Authors Jerry Havens and Collis Geren draw upon this history to assess the accidental explosion risk inherent in using fast reactors to reduce the energy industry’s carbon dioxide emissions.

If a sufficiently powerful fast-neutron explosion were to cause the containment of a reactor such as SEFOR’s to fail, the reactor’s radiotoxic plutonium fuel could vaporize and escape ...

Hidden In Plain Sight: Why Sustainment Is So Critical To The Circular Supply Chains For Technical Products, Dave Peterson

Operations Management Presentations

  • Technical products are typically complex, long-lived and high-cost equipment—such as: aircraft, vehicles, ships, capital equipment/machinery and utilities infrastructure. While many technical products are manufactured via traditional linear supply chains, their useful lives often rely upon sustainment systems incorporating significant aspects of circular supply chains. This webinar takes a closer look at technical products and the critical role of systems sustainment to achieve and fulfill circular supply chains. The key takeaways from this webinar are:
    • The Earth is running out of resources which will have a direct impact upon maintaining/improving our quality of life.
    • The circular economy philosophy ...

Chemical Technology, Control and Management

When constructing automatic control systems, the main attention often is paid to determining the optimal parameters of system regulators than other elements that make up the system. The executive mechanisms also significantly affect the function quality of the control system. In this article, the actuators were considered as a sub-system within the control system and control algorithms with open and closed-loop communication relative to the actuators were investigated. To assess the real state of the actuators, and improved control structure with sensors installed on the moving parts has been developed. For this structure, an algorithm for evaluating and controlling the ...

Preparation Of Meta-Nitrobenzoylhydrazone Ferrocenoylacetone And Synthesis On Its Basis, Zilola Abduraxmonovna Sulaymonova, Bako Bafayevich Umarov Doctor Chemical Science, Professor

Chemical Technology, Control and Management

β-diketone-ferrocenoylacetone was obtained by Claisen condensation. Meta-nitrobenzoylhydrazone of ferrocenoylacetone (H2L) was synthesized by the interaction of meta-nitrobenzoic acid hydrazide with ferrocenoylacetone. On its basis, complexes with copper(II) and nickel(II) ions were synthesized. The obtained compounds were characterized by the methods of elemental analysis, IR-, 1H NMR andelectronic spectroscopy. The research results showed that H2L in solution exists in the form of a tautomeric mixture: hydrazone, α-hydroxyazine, and cyclic 5-hydroxypyrazoline forms. According to the results of IR and 1H NMR spectra, the complexes were assigned a planar-square structure, and in them the doubly ...

Chemical Technology, Control and Management

Automatic tuning of the parameters of PID - regulators is proposed by means of a modified experiment that takes into account the influence of elements and circuits in the form of additive uncertainty. The use of a multiply connected control scheme with two degrees of freedom for decoupling is proposed in order to facilitate the implementation of a mechanism for combating the phenomenon of integral saturation. Equations are derived for the transition from a circuit with one degree of freedom to a circuit with two degrees of freedom for the general and special cases of a two-dimensional system, which makes it ...

Enabling The “Easy Button” For Broad, Parallel Optimization Of Functions Evaluated By Simulation, Andrew Gibson 2021 University of Arkansas, Fayetteville

Enabling The “Easy Button” For Broad, Parallel Optimization Of Functions Evaluated By Simulation, Andrew Gibson

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Java Optimization by Simulation (JOBS) is presented: an open-source, object-oriented Java library designed to enable the study, research, and use of optimization for models evaluated by simulation. JOBS includes several novel design features that make it easy for a simulation modeler, without extensive expertise in optimization or parallel computation, to define an optimization model with deterministic and/or stochastic constraints, choose one or more metaheuristics to solve it and run, using massively parallel function evaluation to reduce wall-clock times.

JOBS is supported by a new language independent, application programming interface (API) for remote simulation model evaluation and a serverless computing ...

Quantitative Set-Based Design For Complex System Development, Nicholas J. Shallcross

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation comprises a body of research facilitating decision-making and complex system development with quantitative set-based design (SBD). SBD is concurrent product development methodology, which develops and analyzes many design alternatives for longer time periods enabling design maturation and uncertainty reduction. SBD improves design space exploration, facilitating the identification of resilient and affordable systems. The literature contains numerous qualitative descriptions and quantitative methodologies describing limited aspects of the SBD process. However, there exist no methodologies enabling the quantitative management of SBD programs throughout the entire product development cycle. This research addresses this knowledge gap by developing the process framework and ...
