Ultra-hard materials that are chemically inert and thermally stable at high temperatures are desirable for enhancing machining and wear performance in demanding chemical and thermal environments. Single and polycrystalline diamonds are the hardest tool materials; however, at high temperatures, diamond reacts with ferrous alloys, losing its chemical inertness and thermal stability. In contrast, cubic boron nitride (cBN) has exceptional chemical and thermal stability but has much lower hardness (35-45 GPa). A Nonconvex Splitting Method For Symmetric Nonnegative Matrix Factorization: Convergence Analysis And Optimality, Songtao Lu, Mingyi Hong, Zhengdao Wang

Symmetric nonnegative matrix factorization (SymNMF) has important applications in data analytics problems such as document clustering, community detection, and image segmentation. In this paper, we propose a novel nonconvex variable splitting method for solving SymNMF. The proposed algorithm is guaranteed to converge to the set of Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) points of the nonconvex SymNMF problem. Furthermore, it achieves a global sublinear convergence rate. We also show that the algorithm can be efficiently implemented in parallel. Further, sufficient conditions are provided that guarantee the global and local optimality of the obtained solutions. CVI LLC trials have shown that corn can be planted with periodic skipped rows without yield loss, and in some cases, yields can be increased. Companion and cover crops planted in skipped rows are one way in which these unplanted rows can be beneficial. If no yield loss is realized when skipping a row at pre-determined intervals, the skipped row crops can be used to help build the soil and provide additional nutrients in-season. Analysis will be done to make a recommendation on how to best utilize skipped rows in corn fields.
