Hydrogen Absorption Induced Slow Crack Growth In Austenitic Stainless Steels For Petrochemical Pressure Vessel Industries, Ronnie Higuchi Rusli
Makara Journal of Technology
Type 304L and type 309 austenitic stainless steels were tested either by exposed to gaseous hydrogen or undergoing polarized cathodic charging. Slow crack growth by straining was observed in type 304L, and the formation of α‘ martensite was indicated to be precursor for such cracking. Gross plastic deformation was observed at the tip of the notch, and a single crack grew slowly from this region in a direction approximately perpendicular to the tensile axis. Martensite formation is not a necessary condition for hydrogen embrittlement in the austenitic phase.

The Impact Of Quality Management Systems During A Pebble Bed Modular Reactor Project : A Case Study, Lwandiso Zamxaka
Lwandiso L Zamxaka
In the nuclear industry, Quality Management Systems are extremely important, especially if one wishes to improve public acceptance of radioactive solutions. There is normally minimum communication between the public and scientists, especially in nuclear science. People are not comfortable with nuclear technology, based on the past history of the Chernobyl catastrophe. Consequently, it is difficult to discuss important and sensitive issues like disposing of nuclear waste. Quality Management Systems can improve public confidence and communication. Integrated Management Systems in the project planning stage of the project can be a proactive step towards preventing unnecessary delays and costs. There is a perception that quality is …

Finding The Exact Maximum Impedance Resonant Frequency Of A Practical Parallel Resonant Circuit Without Calculus, 2010 The College of the Bahamas
Finding The Exact Maximum Impedance Resonant Frequency Of A Practical Parallel Resonant Circuit Without Calculus, Kenneth V. Cartwright, Elton Joseph, Edit J. Kaminsky
Electrical Engineering Faculty Publications
A practical parallel resonant circuit has a resistor in series
with an inductor, and that combination is in parallel with a
capacitor. For such a circuit, it is well known that there are
two possible definitions for the resonant frequency: (i) the
resonant frequency , p f which is the frequency at which the
phase of the total impedance is zero, and (ii) the resonant
frequency m f , which is the frequency that achieves maximum
magnitude of the total impedance. To find the latter
traditionally requires calculus. However, in this paper, the
authors show how m f
can be …
Microstrip-Fed Wideband Circularly Polarized Printed Antenna, 2010 Technological University Dublin
Microstrip-Fed Wideband Circularly Polarized Printed Antenna, Xiulong Bao, Max Ammann, Patrick Mcevoy
Articles
A wideband circularly-polarized printed antenna is proposed, which employs an asymmetrical dipole and a slit in the ground plane which are fed by an L-shaped microstrip feedline using a via. The proposed antenna geometry is arranged so that the orthogonal surface currents, which are generated in the dipole, feedline and ground plane, have the appropriate phase to provide circular polarization. A parametric study of the key parameters is made and the mechanism for circular polarization is described. The measured results show that the impedance bandwidth is approximately 1.34 GHz (2.45 GHz to 3.79 GHz) and the 3 dB axial ratio …

Ultra-Thin-Film Aln Contour-Mode Resonators For Sensing Applications, 2010 University of Pennsylvania
Ultra-Thin-Film Aln Contour-Mode Resonators For Sensing Applications, Matteo Rinaldi, Chiara Zuniga, Gianluca Piazza
Matteo Rinaldi
This paper reports on the design and experimental verification of a new class of ultra-thin-film (250 nm) aluminum nitride (AlN) microelectromechanical system (MEMS) contour mode resonators (CMRs) suitable for the fabrication of ultra-sensitive gravimetric sensors. The device thickness was opportunely scaled in order to increase the mass sensitivity, while keeping a constant frequency of operation. In this first demonstration the resonance frequency of the device was set to 178 MHz and a mass sensitivity as high as 38.96 KHz⋅μm2/fg was attained. This device demonstrates the unique capability of the CMR-S technology to decouple resonance frequency from mass sensitivity.
