Solid oxide full cell(SOFC) running directly on hydrocarbon fuels has attracted much attention in recent years.In this paper,a dual-layer structure anode was fabricated by tape casting and screen printing method.The addition of a LSCM-CeO2 catalyst layer to the supported anode surface yielded better performance in ethanol fuel.The maximum power density reached 710 and 669 mW/cm2 at 850 ℃ running on hydrogen gas steam and ethanol steam,respectively.No significant degradation in performance has been observed after 216 h of cell testing when the Ni-ScSZ13 anode was exposed to the ethanol steam at 700 ℃.Very little carbon was detected on the anode,suggesting that …

The effects of preparative parameters on the surface basicity, composition, and transesterification activities of several Ca-La metal oxide catalysts were investigated. Four different preparation methods: ammonia-ethanol-carbon dioxide precipitation, physical mixing, impregnation, and co-precipitation, were studied. It was found that the ammonia-ethanol-carbon dioxide precipitation method resulted in the highest BET specific surface area, base strength and base site concentration. Moreover, catalyst surface composition and basicity are a function of calcination temperature, precipitants, pH, and molar ratio of Ca to La in precursor solution, and storage conditions. Gas from coal gasification contains less hydrogen than from other syngas production methods. An attractive option is its further hydrogen enrichment for pure hydrogen production in a membrane reactor (MR) by Water Gas Shift (WGS). The goal of present study was to analyse MR fed with coal derived gas. Simulations for feasible membrane permeation parameters revealed that to get high conversion above 90% a relatively high S/C should be applied. Moreover, hydrogen recovery is in this case low (below 30%) so for hydrogen production an additional H2 separation after the MR should have been applied. The paper also shows that …

Mathematical model of a membrane reactor for the water-gas-shift (WGS) reaction and results of simulation studies are presented. The physicochemical phenomena and brief description of the model are given. Due to the fact that membranes for CO2 separation exhibit poor selectivity at the elevated temperature range (indispensable for the desired activity of WGS catalysts), the simulations were carried out only for H2 selective membranes, containing Pd or its alloys. Comparison of the conventional two-stage WGS reactor with the membrane reactor revealed that operating temperature range of the catalyst used in the membrane reactor unit has to be much wider than …

This paper describes experimental work done towards the search for more profitable and sustainable alternatives regarding biodiesel production, using heterogeneous catalysts instead of the conventional homogenous alkaline catalysts, such as NaOH, KOH or sodium methoxide, for the methanolysis reaction. This experimental work is a first stage on the development and optimization of new solid catalysts, able to produce biodiesel from vegetable oils. The heterogeneous catalytic process has many differences from the currently used in industry homogeneous process. The main advantage is that, it requires lower investment costs, since no need for separation steps of methanol/catalyst, biodiesel/catalyst and glycerine/catalyst. This work …

The capture of CO2 from flue gases can be done by chemical absorption with aqueous amine solutions like MEA (monoethanolamine). Although this is a proven process, there are still operational problems to overcome [1], namely those resulting from solvent degradation, precipitation, corrosion and foaming. Also, the absorption capacity of the most current amines must be improved in order to obtain a more profitable operation. It has been shown previously that relationships exist between the amine structure and the activity/capacity for CO2 absorption. Due to the adverse effect of CO2 from fossil fuel combustion on the earth’s ecosystems, the most cost effective method for CO2 capture is an important area of research. The predominant process for CO2 capture currently employed by industry is chemical absorption in amine solutions. A dynamic model for the de-absorption process was developed with Monoethanolamine (MEA) solution. Henry’s law was used for modeling the vapour phase equilibrium of the CO2, and fugacity ratios calculated by the Peng Robinson equation of state (EOS) were used for H2O, MEA, N2 and O2. Micro- and macroscopic studies of nucleation and growth processes of MnAlPO-5 nanosized crystals under ionothermal synthesis conditions are reported herein. The samples treated at 150 8C were extracted from the reaction mixture at various stages of crystallization, and characterized by XRD; SEM; thermogravimetric analysis (TGA); 31P and 27Al solid-state magic angle spinning (MAS) NMR, Raman, UV/Vis, and X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF). The starting raw materials (alumina, manganese, and phosphorous) were dissolved completely in the ionic liquid and transformed into an amorphous solid after 5 h of ionothermal treatment. Electronic structure calculations in the local spin-density approximation have been carried out on the recently synthesized trimer (CrCl 3 ) 3 exhibiting antiferromagnetic ordering below T N =55 K. The calculated magnetic coupling constant, the paramagnetic Curie temperature, and the decrease of the magnetic moment below T N are well reproduced by the calculations. An interpretation of the spin structure is given that is consistent with all experimental data currently available.
