Incorporating Social Media Into The Classroom: A Case Study On How Tiktok Can Be Immersed Into Classroom Pedagogy, Sara Solomon 2021 Dominican University of California

Incorporating Social Media Into The Classroom: A Case Study On How Tiktok Can Be Immersed Into Classroom Pedagogy, Sara Solomon

Education | Master's Theses

My research project focuses on the use of TikTok embedded within classroom pedagogy and how it can be used as a tool to support academic and social emotional wellbeing. There is a lack of research investigating how social media can be incorporated into the classroom to make up for potential academic losses, including the inevitable social/emotional needs of adolescents that need to be addressed due to the ramifications of COVID-19. In my research, I question ways in which students see this tool as supporting their wellbeing, in what ways parents see this tool as supporting their child's wellbeing, and why …

Educational Impact Of Supervising Fellow Visits In The Emergency Department, Grace E. Arends Md

Research Days

Problem Statement/Question: After meeting certain criteria, pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) fellows were previously permitted to independently manage and discharge patients. These encounters anecdotally fostered autonomy but missed educational opportunities. We have previously reported that fellow positive perception of education and autonomy was low (22% and 11%). Additionally, the absence of an attending’s attestation on these patient charts prevented the collection of a professional service fee, an average potential billed amount of $125.67 per unit of service or total of $620,307 in 2019.

Background/Project Intent (Aim Statement): After key stakeholder involvement, we recognized attending supervision for all fellow patients as an …

Teacher Self-Efficacy: The Missing Piece To Trauma-Informed Classroom Interventions, Sarah Lancaster 2021 Fort Hays State University

Teacher Self-Efficacy: The Missing Piece To Trauma-Informed Classroom Interventions, Sarah Lancaster

The Advocate

Once a child enters kindergarten they spend the majority of their waking hours in school. Therefore, school-based interventions that are trauma informed are crucial for promoting social-emotional learning and development. While there are some promising studies, professional development programs for educators have not systematically incorporated psychoeducation on childhood trauma and the impact it has on behavior and learning, or classroom-based strategies to enhance learning and development among children with a trauma history (McConnico, Boynton-Jarrett, Bailey, & Nandi, 2016). Furthermore, educators’ perceptions on how comfortable they are dealing with the trauma of students has not been widely explored (Crosby, Day, Baroni, …

The Prevalence Of Learning Styles Theory In Kansas K-12 Classrooms: A Statistical Analysis, Alan English 2021 Bethany College - Lindsborg

The Prevalence Of Learning Styles Theory In Kansas K-12 Classrooms: A Statistical Analysis, Alan English

The Advocate

Despite a lack of empirical evidence to support its existence, previous literature has demonstrated that Learning Styles Theory (LST) enjoys widespread popularity in education, leading many researchers to refer to it as a “myth”. This study utilized original survey data to determine Kansas K-12 teachers’ level of predilection for LST. Kansas teachers’ responses (n=147) were analyzed in comparison to that of non-Kansas teachers (n=93) in seven independent Learning Styles Theory measures. Results suggested that Kansas teachers responded statistically less-favorably to the prospect that LST is best for student learning, less likely to view LST as essential for effective instruction, and …

The Rationale For Helping Teacher Candidates Integrate Self-Reflection Into Chaotic Schedules, Sarah Y.S Tham 2021 Tabor College

The Rationale For Helping Teacher Candidates Integrate Self-Reflection Into Chaotic Schedules, Sarah Y.S Tham

The Advocate

There is no doubt that teachers want to self-reflect. However, given the increasing number of teachers' responsibilities in and out of the classroom, teachers have to set priorities. In teacher education programs, self-reflection is included but often not emphasized. Teacher candidates are encouraged to reflect on their lesson plans, study materials, writing, and teaching experience, but a structured and useable framework is often lacking. In the end, instruction, assessments, diagnosis, and interventions remain at the forefront of teachers' minds, and self-reflection is put on the burner. This paper presents findings of how self-reflection influenced tutors in the classrooms they were …

Smart Rounding: Development Of A Nurse-Driven Rounding Checklist As A Sustainable Intervention For Improved Care Communication, Charles I. Maloy

Research Days

Background/Project Intent: Use of checklists in the healthcare setting is increasingly common and is important to the development of high reliability and standard avenues for communication. At our tertiary care freestanding pediatric hospital, there was no widely used rounding checklist that discussed items important to quality care and patient safety outside of the intensive care unit. The development and implementation of medical checklists for the standard patient floor are inadequately described. We will develop and implement a rounding checklist with at least 80% daily checklist use sustained over 6 months. Team members will report improved multidisciplinary discussion of patient safety …

Research Days

Background/Project Intent (Aim Statement): The objective of this quality improvement project is to decrease unplanned extubations in a Level IV NICU to an annual rate of2020.

Methods (include PDSA cycles): We hypothesized that increased awareness of historical ETT position would both prevent unnecessary ETT position adjustments and encourage prophylactic adjustments to adjust for significant weight gain or loss. In December 2019, we implemented a novel intervention to provide readily accessible graphs of historical ETT tube position in each neonate with corrected gestational agecycles, we provided education to all members of the multidisciplinary team, we enlisted the Information Technologies Department to …

Physician Advocacy: Defining And Implementing Into Practice, Laura Kantor 2021 Children's Mercy Kansas City

Physician Advocacy: Defining And Implementing Into Practice, Laura Kantor

Research Days

Background: Physicians are perceived by society to have a duty to both improve the health of their individual patients and the wellbeing of society as a whole. The perceived social and professional obligation of physicians to engage in advocacy work is often implied yet illdefined with little formal training or official supports. Many physicians feel their training and practice environment do not support increased engagement in advocacy. In order to promote the idea that advocacy is an integral aspect of modern practice, it is necessary to further characterize its definition and scope.

Objectives/Goal: We aim to gain insight into the …
