Microanalysis of face-to-face dialogue (MFD), that is, the detailed and replicable examination of any aspect of observable communicative behavior as it occurs, moment by moment, in a face-to-face dialogue (Bavelas, Gerwing, Healing, & Tomori, 2016) to examine professional conversations. MFD is an inductive methodology which uses detailed operational definitions and analysis rules, rather than relying on subjective judgment, to produce high inter-analyst agreement (Bavelas et al., 2016). MFD principles are applicable to teaching, training, and supervising clinicians in our CFT program.

Educational campaigns are more complicated when members of our audiences hold scientific misconceptions related to new technologies. Our prairie strips research and education team produced a brief, focused video aimed to dispel a misconception related to the effect of prairie strip plants' roots on agricultural drain tiles in the Midwest. Our "Field Tile Investigation" video was based on the conceptual change framework from science education and featured a discrepant event. The goal was to move farmers, landowners, and their advisors to an understanding of prairie strips that was more compatible with the scientific standard.

Books about Rollins College
Rollins After Dark is a fascinating history of the eclectic program (and larger-than-life characters) that provided the underpinning of what would become today's Hamilton Holt School - the Rollins College evening program. Although 2019 is the Holt School's 60th anniversary, so-called "adult education" has been offered by the College for more than 80 years. In Rollins After Dark, Randy Noles presents an engaging and entertaining account of the development of the Hamilton Holt School at Rollins College. From a series of popular public spectacles focusing on diverse topics, to a serious academic program for degree-seeking, nontraditional students, the evolution ...

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach conducted an assessment of Iowa farm operators‘ perceptions of the barriers and motivators when considering retrofitting tractors with rollover protective structures (ROPS). A statewide sample of approximately 2,000 farm operators was surveyed in the 2017 Iowa Farm and Rural Life Poll. A series of questions was asked to evaluate the importance of potential barriers to decisions to not retrofit a tractor and potential motivators that could influence the decision to retrofit or purchase a tractor with ROPS. The survey received a 48% response rate (999 responses). Among the 76% of Iowa farm operators ...

During the halftime of his son’s football game, Farmer Brown asks his smartphone for a real-time cost-effectiveness analysis of three alternative treatments to suppress weeds in two acres over the Missouri River, where remote imagery technology identified weed pressure trending up and nearing 90% of the acre- and corn-stage-specific weed threshold. The device calculates real-time partial budget analyses using acre-specific weather forecasts, soil conditions, labor and machinery costs, corn growth stage and projected yields, weed species, and cutting-edge technology to respond with information about the cost-effectiveness of reducing weed pressure to 75%, 80%, and 85% of the threshold as ...

Since its inception in the Smith–Lever Act of 1914, Extension has been a hallmark of the tripartite mission of U.S. land grant universities. In fact, arguably, Extension is a globally unique feature of the U.S. public universities that provide practical higher education opportunities to the public (Rasmussen, 1989; Gould, Steele, and Woodrum, 2014). Through the Cooperative Extension System, a unique partnership among federal, state, and county governments allows “useful and practical” researched-based knowledge to be disseminated beyond the campuses of various land grant universities to farmers, ranchers, and consumers. However, this century-old cooperative system is at a ...

Attacks on computers today present in many different forms, causing malfunction of operating systems, information leakage and loss of business and public trust.
