Expectativas Y Capital Académico De Estudiantes De Nuevo Ingreso A Ingeniería En Mexicali, México: Discusión Desde La Perspectiva De Género, María M. Duarte-Godoy, Juan J. Sevilla-García, Susana Gutiérrez-Portillo, Jesús Fco. Galaz-Fontes

Explaining The Alumni Relationship And Giving Tendencies Of Multigeneration Alumni Legacy Families At Marquette University, Lauren Edmonson 2011 Marquette University

Explaining The Alumni Relationship And Giving Tendencies Of Multigeneration Alumni Legacy Families At Marquette University, Lauren Edmonson

Professional Projects

This research examines the donative relationship legacy alumni of Marquette University have with their alma mater. As universities are relying more heavily on donations to finance portions of their budgets, university administration has invested heavily in fundraising offices to identify alumni with strong giving potential. Legacy alumni are a deeply emotionally vested group, with a high giving potential. Previous research has focused on the different determinants of alumni giving; this research focuses specifically on the different generations of legacy families at Marquette (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th) and how their donative nature differs from non‐legacy constituents and from each other. Also …

Instructor Technology Use: A Mixed Methods Investigation, Suzanne K. Becking 2011 University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Instructor Technology Use: A Mixed Methods Investigation, Suzanne K. Becking

Department of Educational Administration: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

This mixed methods concurrent triangulation study was designed to examine instructional leaders’ descriptions of their experience with integrating technology into their teaching. Seminal studies from the 1990s were found to remain true today—that teachers are not ready to incorporate technology into their teaching (Becker, 1999; Ertmer, 1999). In the decade since Becker’s and Ertmer’s findings, changes have been seen in select pockets of the university community. I was interested in exploring one of these “pockets” that has been identified through my work with online instruction and in consultations with faculty who are either beginning or are veterans at integrating technology …

Go Abroad And Graduate On-Time: Study Abroad Participation, Degree Completion, And Time-To-Degree, Heather Barclay Hamir 2011 University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Go Abroad And Graduate On-Time: Study Abroad Participation, Degree Completion, And Time-To-Degree, Heather Barclay Hamir

Department of Educational Administration: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

Over the last four decades, participation in postsecondary education has grown, yet degree completion rates have not risen at a proportional rate (Bound, Lovenheim & Turner, 2009; National Center for Educational Statistics, 2008; Turner, 2004) and the length of time to graduation is increasing (Tinto, 1993; Turner). At the same time, the benefits of degree completion for the individual and society are well documented (McMahon, 2009). Significant research since the 1970s explored factors related to student retention and attrition in an effort to understand and intervene in these processes. Building on Astin’s (1984) Theory of Student Involvement, Kuh and associates …

Incorporating Accreditation Into Strategic Planning In Academic Libraries: A Look At Nine Libraries In Washington State, Daniel CannCasciato 2011 Central Washington University

Incorporating Accreditation Into Strategic Planning In Academic Libraries: A Look At Nine Libraries In Washington State, Daniel Canncasciato

Library Scholarship

Accreditation for universities and colleges is a milestone achievement. Failing an accreditation review can have a dire impact on an institution. A successful accreditation process should be a major goal of all involved at the institution, as it brings with it a validation of that institution. The academic library is included in accreditation reviews, so library personnel should plan to succeed in the process. The purpose of this article is to investigate whether such planning is evident or explicit in the mission and planning documents of nine academic libraries in Washington State.

Faculty Compensation For Developing And Delivering Online Courses, Jeffrey Allen Burleson 2011 Old Dominion University

Faculty Compensation For Developing And Delivering Online Courses, Jeffrey Allen Burleson

STEMPS Theses & Dissertations

The intent of this dissertation was to determine the most common compensation practices higher education institutions provided faculty for developing and delivering online courses. Many higher education institutions provided compensation as motivational tools to elicit faculty participation in new online learning initiatives; however, limited research was available on equitable compensation for these services. The population consisted of 263 small, medium, and large baccalaureate and masters level private and state-funded not-for-profit United States higher education institutions. This population was selected using the maximum number of institutions identified by the Carnegie Classification system that met these criteria.

Data for this study were …
