Ncaa Interdivisional Games: Are There More Injuries When David Plays Goliath?, David L. Carr, Gregory M. Huckabee, Thomas Tiahrt
Mountain Plains Business Conference 2023
All intercollegiate football carries a risk of injury in a collision sport. Schools from the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) often play early-season games against schools from the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). FCS schools (David) often receive the largest payouts by playing FBS schools. FBS schools (Goliath) are able to schedule early-season games they are likely to win while providing the opportunity to tune up their teams. Our research question is whether FCS teams report more injuries when playing FBS opponents than they report when playing FCS opponents. We have received access to the NCAA injury dataset from Datalys.

Specifically, this study aimed at examining if interaction and engagement with their team’s sponsors’ activational communication on-site, as well as on social media, influenced loyalty towards the sponsors. The study utilized service-dominant (S-D) logic as the theoretical framework. Abstract
Many private colleges in the U.S. face financial difficulty. The role of athletics in the financial condition of U.S. colleges is subject to controversy. Supporters argue that collegiate sports draw students, improve student quality, and increase donor support. Detractors argue that athletics are costly and undermine the academic mission of the institution. In this paper, we examine metrics of athletic and academic quality to determine their effects on the financial health of a sample of U.S. private colleges. Our findings indicate that higher spending on athletics reduces an institution’s financial health and that academic quality increases an institution’s financial …

Finally, fans of streaming did not differ in their perceptions and likely behaviors toward rival groups among streaming platforms. Discussion focuses on implications and avenues for future research.
