A Categorical Data Analysis On Relationships Between Culture, Creativity And Business Stage: The Case Of Vietnam, Quan Hoang Vuong, Nancy K. Napier, Tri Dung Tran
International Business Program
In this paper, we offer a new way of exploring relationships between three different dimensions of a business operation, namely the stages of business development, the methods of creativity and the major cultural values. Although separately each of these has gained enormous attention from the management research community, evidenced by a large volume of research studies, few studies have attempted to describe the logic that connect these three important aspects of a business, let alone develop empirical evidence that supports any significant relationships among these variables. This paper also provides a dataset and an empirical investigation on that dataset, using …

Cross-Generational Perspectives On Work-Life Balance And Its Impact, D. Roebuck, D. N. Smith, T. El Haddaoui
Faculty and Research Publications
This qualitative study focuses on how women of three different generations, Generation Y, Generation X and Baby Boomers, view the concept of work-life balance and what relationship these views have to their attainment of workplace leadership positions. Work-life balance was defined differently across the three generations, but the generational lines faded as most women reported struggling with finding a balance. Some women conveyed choosing not to pursue high-level leadership positions as the personal cost was too high. Those who had obtained high-level leadership positions shared what types of support were most effective in helping them juggle personal and professional obligations. …

Job Interview Essentials, Matt Mcginniss
Matt McGinniss
Why should we hire you? How do you handle pressure? What are your strengths and weaknesses? Why do people get nervous during job interviews when they’re asked questions like these? The answer is simple. People feel nervous because they know they’re being judged. They’re being judged on their personality, their body language, the logic behind their responses and the quality of their clothes. This is why extensive preparation before a job interview and the implementation of strategic answers is vital for your chances of success.

Possible Futures, Present Logics: A Neo-Institutional View Of The Scenario Planning Process, 2013 University of Cambridge
Possible Futures, Present Logics: A Neo-Institutional View Of The Scenario Planning Process, Gary Bowman, Ryan Parks
Gary Bowman
This paper integrates work on institutional logics with that of sensemaking in the context of the scenario planning process. We explore the influence of three societal-level institutional logic struggles, as manifested within the context, content and process of a large public sector organization’s scenario development exercise. We view this as a significant opportunity to employ institutional logics to enhance our understanding of the political nature of public policy development and as an opportunity to challenge the assumptions of scenario planning as a strategy tool. Conversely, we also use the sensemaking-sensegiving activities of scenario planning to identify occasions where institutional logics …

Hospitality Management Graduates' Perceptions Of Career Factor Importance And Career Factor Experience And The Relation With Turnover Intentions, Eric A. Brown

Previous researchers have shown hospitality management students have different expectations than experiences in a career in the hospitality industry. The purpose of this research was to determine the importance and experiences of career factors of hospitality management graduates and how they relate to turnover intentions. In particular, differences between those that stayed in the hospitality and those that left the hospitality industry were examined. Web-based questionnaires were distributed to hospitality management graduates from different four-year institutions. Privateers & Paes: Economic Harms To Competition And Innovation, 2013 University of California - Berkeley
Privateers & Paes: Economic Harms To Competition And Innovation, Robert G. Harris
Robert G Harris
This paper addresses the problems of aggressive rent-seeking activities by patent assertion entities (PAEs), especially those involving patent thickets. It analyzes the fundamental differences in the strategic interests of practicing entities and PAEs and explains why those differences affect the conduct of PAEs and increase the opportunities for, and economic harm caused by PAEs’ rent-seeking and patent holdup. It also addresses the anticompetitive harms caused when practicing entities transfer patents to PAEs, especially those that incentivize assertion of the transferred patents against their competitors, i.e. “patent privateering.”

Citizen-Government Engagement: Community Connection: Community Connection Through Networked Arrangements, 2013 Queensland University of Technology
Citizen-Government Engagement: Community Connection: Community Connection Through Networked Arrangements, Kerry A. Brown, Robyn L. Keast
Robyn L Keast
Changes in the social, political and economic make-up of contemporary society have resulted in greater emphasis on competition, entrepreneurship, individualisation and fragmentation but, at the same time, there has been growing calls by the community for improved connection between government and citizens, and greater integration and cooperation. Since governments cannot afford to tolerate excessive levels of tension between constituents and other stakeholders, and the previous systems of integration on their own are no longer sufficient, there is a need for new processes and mechanisms of connection. Universally, networked forms based on horizontal integration principles have been presented as the new …
