A Study Of Transformational Initiatives And Social Capital, Craig Dean Plain
Theses and Dissertations
A STUDY OF TRANSFORMATIONAL INITIATIVES AND SOCIAL CAPITAL
Organizations seek to improve themselves. They do so to become more efficient, to increase sales...indeed, to survive. Many have implemented various initiatives to transform themselves. For some, these efforts have paid off. Companies such as General Electric, Motorola, Allied Signal, and others have claimed billions of dollars in cost reductions and increases in revenue (Altinkemer, Ozcelik, & Ozdemir, 2011; Lucier & Seshadri, 2001). Such successes have driven many others to implement these transformational initiatives. Yet the failure rate hovers around 70% (Kotter J. P., 1995).

Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Travel and tourism has been recognized as being an important driver of jobs, growth and economic recovery in the United States. Meetings, events and incentive travel contribute $98.7 billion of the direct spending, $15.0 billion in taxes and 859,000 jobs. As a result, destination marketing organizations (DMOs) in the United States are taking advantage of this impact for growth in their destinations. As a destination marketing organization's main job responsibility is to promote their destination to attract visitors, which requires superior marketing strategies to achieve these goals.
This research investigates the marketing strategies of DMOs in the United States. The …
Consumer Adoption Of Health Information Systems, 2013 University of Arkansas, Fayetteville
Consumer Adoption Of Health Information Systems, Sankara Subramanian Srinivasan
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
At nearly 18 percent of the country's GDP, the U.S. healthcare industry continues to wrestle with growing cost and a quality of care that does not match the increased spending. The dominant focus to date has been on promoting Health IT (HIT) system implementation and digitizing health records at the provider's end, with scant attention to the role of the patient in the healthcare process. The source of inefficiency in the healthcare system is not only on account of shortcomings at the provider's end but also due to non-compliance (such as failing to adhere to medication advice and follow-up visits) …
The Internationalization Of Creative Professional Service Firms, 2013 Technological University Dublin
The Internationalization Of Creative Professional Service Firms, Deirdre Mcquillan
Doctoral
The need to understand the internationalization process of the organization is a field of increasing contemporary interest due to greatly intensified trade flows between nations over the last two decades. While traditionally internationalization was generally pursued by manufacturing firms, service organizations, including creative professional service firms (creative PSFs) such as architects now commonly internationalize their activities. However, theory to date continues to focus on traditional manufacturing firms, and while insights relating to service firm internationalization have gained traction over the last decade, theoretical contributions remain fragmented and overlook the particular features of how creative PSFs internationalize. This is despite the …

Carton Clamp Methodologies And The Effects On Load Containment And Retention, 2013 California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo
Carton Clamp Methodologies And The Effects On Load Containment And Retention, Tyler D. Blumer
Master's Theses
ABSTRACT
Carton Clamp Test Methodologies and the Effects on
Load Containment and Retention
Tyler Don Blumer
A carton clamp is an alternative device for moving packages and material. Instead of using iron tines like that of a conventional forklift, a carton clamp uses two large aluminum platens to slightly compress and secure the load for handling. This is advantageous as it allows operators to move layers of a unitized load individually, and eliminates the need for a pallet when handling full unitized loads. When using a carton clamp attachment, it is often difficult for operators to accurately gauge the amount …
Extractive Versus Productive Economy: A Case Study Comparison Of Peru And South Korea, 2013 Lock Haven University
Extractive Versus Productive Economy: A Case Study Comparison Of Peru And South Korea, Rubén Berríos
Journal of Global Initiatives: Policy, Pedagogy, Perspective
There are striking contrasts between a productive and an extractive economy. South Korea and Peru are used as examples. Korea is not a resource-rich country but has developed remarkably fast. Pem, on the other hand, is a resource-rich country but has shown uneven rates of growth and has had a lackluster development performance because it has relied on extractive industries that have brought boom and bust. Korea is a high performing economy that achieved high rates of growth implementing policies that emphasized productivity and promoted industrialization and free trade. Korea's success is explained in terms of its policies promoting the …
Agco Corporation Valuation, 2013 Utah State University
Agco Corporation Valuation, Sean Michael Miller
Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects
This paper will discuss the excellent growth potential that AGCO Corporation faces and the reason that this company's stock is rated as a hold position. AGCO has seen tremendous progress and is in an industry that shows that a growing world population will continue to need food and more efficient ways to create food. However, based on sensitivities of assumptions in the models presented herein and on a current share price that is already close to my assumed fair value I do not issue a buy recommendation.
The Impact Of Securitization, Bank Liquidity Shocks, And Government Intervention On Lending And Banks' Asset Composition: Evidence From The U.S. 2007-2009 Financial Crisis, 2013 The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley
The Impact Of Securitization, Bank Liquidity Shocks, And Government Intervention On Lending And Banks' Asset Composition: Evidence From The U.S. 2007-2009 Financial Crisis, Peter V. Egly
Theses and Dissertations - UTB/UTPA
The 2007- 2009 financial crisis creates a new wave of research opportunities in part due to the transformation of the banking system that led to the development of securitized banking that is supported by short term funding sources provided through the money and capital markets. The near collapse of the financial system ultimately led to the ensuing government intervention by the Federal Reserve and the U.S. Treasury department to revive the frail U.S. economy. This dissertation has two basic research objectives: 1) investigate the impact of securitization and the subprime mortgage collapse on bank lending during the crisis and 2) …

Technology Expectations Of Cpa Firms: Hiring And The Accounting Curriculum, Kristy N. Wilson
Honors Theses
The purpose of this study is to determine the technology expectations of Certified Public Accounting (CPA) firms and to evaluate whether or not accounting curriculums adequately prepare students to meet the firms’ hiring expectations. A total of 28 participants - 19 sole practitioners and 9 CPA firms - completed an online survey designed to determine the technological skills CPA firms require of new hires, the extent to which recent new hires have met the firms’ expectations, and the accounting software and programs that firms typically use. The researcher also analyzed the accounting curriculums of 22 four-year public universities to gather …
The Effect Of Product Density On Perceived Price And Quality, 2013 University of Southern Mississippi
The Effect Of Product Density On Perceived Price And Quality, Joshua Jc Holston
Honors Theses
This study explores whether product density affects crowding, perceived quality, and perceived price of products within the retail space. The goal is to determine whether product density directly affects customers’ perceptions of price and quality of merchandise within retail spaces. It tests the hypotheses that increased product density will lead to an increase in crowding perceptions but a decrease in perceived price and quality. The study uses photographs of retail spaces with differing densities to manipulate product density and an online questionnaire to gather data. A student sample is used to collect the data. ANOVAs are used to determine the …

Participants consisted of a convenience sample including 69 ISYS program upperclassmen, 20 ISYS program alumni, and 8 employers of the ISYS program graduates. ISYS program alumni completed an online Qualtrics survey to measure the participants' perception of their workforce preparedness. ISYS program …
North Texas Domestic Partner Benefits Policies, 2013 Boise State University
North Texas Domestic Partner Benefits Policies, James Wanek, Gundars Kaupins, Malcolm Coco
Management Faculty Publications and Presentations
A challenge facing managers and human resource professionals is determining whether to expand benefits, especially health insurance, beyond employees to other eligible dependents. Immediate family members such as the spouse and/or dependent children of employees are commonly eligible for company sponsored benefits. Among larger companies, unmarried same-sex or opposite-sex domestic partners are more frequently being included as eligible for coverage under employee benefit plans.
Role Of Business Leaders In The Integrality Of The Working Indivual, 2013 De La Salle University
Role Of Business Leaders In The Integrality Of The Working Indivual, Ms. Cristine Atienza, Prof. Maria Andreas Santiago
Center for Business Research and Development
In a world where the benefit to the common good has been overshadowed by the need to spur demand to increase profitability, one begins to wonder if business has turned a blind eye and if the workforce has grown so detached that who they are at work is different from who they are outside the workplace. Fragmentation (Alford and Naughton 2001) and compartmentalization (McIntyre as cited in Martin 2011, Rozuel 2011) at varying degrees and across different arenas have become possible traps for every worker.

Management Forecast Credibility And Underreaction To News, 2013 Singapore Management University
Management Forecast Credibility And Underreaction To News, Jeffrey Ng, Irem Tuna, Rodrigo Verdi
Research Collection School Of Accountancy
In this paper, we first document evidence of underreaction to management forecast news. We then hypothesize that the credibility of the forecast influences the magnitude of this underreaction. Relying on evidence that more credible forecasts are associated with a larger reaction in the short window around the management forecasts and a smaller post-management forecast drift in returns, we show that the magnitude of the underreaction is smaller for firms that provide more credible forecasts. Our paper contributes to the literature by providing out-of-sample evidence of the drift in returns documented in the post-earnings-announcement drift literature, with the credibility of the …
Price Shocks, News Disclosures, And Asymmetric Drifts, 2013 Singapore Management University
Price Shocks, News Disclosures, And Asymmetric Drifts, Hai Lu, Kevin Wang, Xiaolu Wang
Research Collection School Of Accountancy
Motivated by investor disagreement and corporate disclosure literatures, we examinehow stock price shocks affect future stock returns. We find that both large short-termprice drops and hikes are followed by negative abnormal returns over the subsequent year, consistent with the conjecture that price shocks are useful indicators of inter-temporalspikes in investor disagreement and investor opinion converges gradually. The asymmetricdrifts, return continuation for negative price shocks versus return reversal for positive ones, are in sharp contrast to the general findings of symmetric drifts in corporate event studies. Moreover, price shocks associated with public news events are followed by significantlyweaker downward drifts, suggesting that news disclosures …

Results from this analysis will offer insight into which persistence factors lead to students' matriculation to the next cohort, with the ultimate goal of program completion. Identifying persistence factors related to student, program, and institutional support characteristics will help guide PGA Golf Management University programs by: recruiting …
New Mouthguard Design With Intermediate Nickel-Titanium And Foam Layer, 2013 University of Nevada, Las Vegas
New Mouthguard Design With Intermediate Nickel-Titanium And Foam Layer, Freddie Martinez
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
Mouthguards help prevent orofacial injuries in many physical activities, commonly to the maxillary incisors. Mouthguards have many different properties which can be idealized. One property involves the amount of impact force the mouthguard can dissipate, commonly referred to as shock absorption. The aim of this study was to improve shock absorption capabilities beyond the protection that a mouthguard made of Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) can offer. A Nickel-Titanium (NiTi) and/or foam intermediate layer was placed between EVA. Seven configurations were fabricated at 3 different thicknesses. The configurations consisted of an intermediate layer composed of NiTi, foam, or NiTi/foam. The NiTi …
