Behavioral Health Providers And Electronic Health Records: An Exploratory Beliefs Elicitation And Segmentation Study, Nancy C. Shank
College of Education and Human Sciences: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
The widespread adoption of electronic health records (EHRs) is a public policy strategy to improve healthcare quality and reduce accelerating health care costs. Much research has focused on medical providers’ perceptions of EHRs, but little is known about those of behavioral health providers. This research was informed by the theory of reasoned action, and the technology acceptance model. This mixed methods research was conducted in two studies. The first study interviewed behavioral health providers (n = 32) to elicit beliefs about EHRs. Using the elicited beliefs from the first study, a survey of 38 Likert-scaled belief statements was administered to …
Fraud Detection In Online Consumer Reviews, 2011 Singapore Management University
Fraud Detection In Online Consumer Reviews, Nan Hu, Ling Liu, Vallabh Sambamurthy
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Increasingly, consumers depend on social information channels, such as user-posted online reviews, to make purchase decisions. These reviews are assumed to be unbiased reflections of other consumers' experiences with the products or services. While extensively assumed, the literature has not tested the existence or non-existence of review manipulation. By using data from Amazon and Barnes & Noble, our study investigates if vendors, publishers, and writers consistently manipulate online consumer reviews. We document the existence of online review manipulation and show that the manipulation strategy of firms seems to be a monotonically decreasing function of the product's true quality or the …

Manipulation In Digital Word-Of-Mouth: A Reality Check For Book Reviews, Nan Hu, Indranil Bose, Yunjun Gao, Ling Liu
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Built upon the discretionary accrual-based earnings management framework, our paper develops a discretionary manipulation proxy to study the management of online reviews. We reveal that fraudulent review manipulation is a serious problem for 1) non-bestseller books; 2) books whose reviews are classified as not very helpful; 3) books that experience greater variability in the helpfulness of their online reviews; and 4) popular books as well as high-priced books. We also show that review management decreases with the passage of time. Just like fraudulent earnings management, manipulated online reviews reflect inauthentic information from which consumers might derive wrong valuation especially for …

Analyzing The Role Of Icts In The Tunisian And Egyptian Unrest From An Information Warfare Perspective, Brett Van Niekerk, Kiru Pillay, Manoj Maharaj
Manoj Maharaj
In January 2011, the Tunisian government stepped down after weeks of protests; this was followed by unrest and protests in Egypt against the Egyptian government, leading also to the resignation of its president. Demonstrations in both countries were facilitated in some part by the online social media and related information and communications technologies that impacted the flow of information. The manner in which the information and communication technologies were employed suggests that the uprisings were a form of social information warfare. To provide an alternative understanding of the role of technology and information in the events that led to the …

Growing research on Free/Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS) has addressed a variety of questions focusing on aspects ranging from open source development processes and developer motivation, to economic and policymaking implications. Nevertheless, a few authors have examined the adoption of FLOSS and its impact on organizational change and innovation. Adoption studies represent a particularly promising area for information system researchers to investigate the relationship between the specific properties of FLOSS and the processes of implementation and use. The goal of this article is to contribute to this field of research by discussing a former multitargeted research agenda and by defining …

Nested Circles Boundary Algorithm For Rotated Texture Classification, Mutaz M. Al-Debei, Suzan Awienat, Rana Abu-Laila
Dr. Mutaz M. Al-Debei
A new simple yet efficient classification algorithm named as Nested Circle Boundary (NCB) is proposed in this study. This algorithm provides features from measuring the average of the sum of boundary pixels for a number of nested circles inside the texture image. It was tested on different 91 rotated texture images for 13 texture classes using Brodatz texture database. The proposed algorithm achieves 100% accuracy when it comes to rotated texture classification. The methodology of NCB algorithm is based on two phases. Phase one mainly measures the features of the 13 texture classes and the original texture images. Then, the …

Business Model Requirements And Challenges In The Mobile Telecommunication Sector, Mutaz M. Al-Debei, David Avison
Dr. Mutaz M. Al-Debei
The telecommunications business is undergoing a critical revolution, driven by innovative technologies, globalization and deregulation. Cellular networks and telecommunications bring radical changes to the way telecom businesses are conducted. Globalization, on the other hand, is tearing down legacy barriers and forcing monopolistic national carriers to compete internationally. Moreover, the noticeable progress of many countries towards deregulation coupled with liberalization is significantly increasing telecom market power and allowing severe competition. The implications of this transition have changed the business rules of the telecom industry. In addition, entrants into the cellular industry have had severe difficulties due to inexistent or weak business …
A Semi-Automatic Ontology Extension Method For Semantic Web Services, 2011 The University of Jordan
A Semi-Automatic Ontology Extension Method For Semantic Web Services, Mutaz M. Al-Debei, Mohammad Mourhaf Al Asswad
Dr. Mutaz M. Al-Debei
this paper provides a novel semi-automatic ontology extension method for Semantic Web Services (SWS). This is significant since ontology extension methods those existing in literature mostly deal with semantic description of static Web resources such as text documents. Hence, there is a need for methods that can serve dynamic Web resources such as SWS. The developed method in this paper avoids redundancy and respects consistency so as to assure high quality of the resulting shared ontologies.
