Science And Theology In Religious Education And Faith Formation With Children And Youth: Towards A Post-Foundationalist Approach, Judy S. Steers

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

The intersections of Science and Theology have received a great deal of attention in recent decades. A broad range of approaches and discourse exists within academic environments. Within popular culture, however, the public perception often is that science and theology are in conflict and at odds with one another.

Many authors have attempted to write about science and theology from a dialogical standpoint. Educational projects over the past ten years have attempted to address the supposed conflict between religion and science, and affirm the validity of religious beliefs in a scientific era. Too often, however, scientific concepts are misappropriated as ...

The Inerrancy Of The Breath Of God: An Examination Of The Bible’S Claim To Inerrancy, Mark A. Roloff 2018 Liberty University Online

The Inerrancy Of The Breath Of God: An Examination Of The Bible’S Claim To Inerrancy, Mark A. Roloff

Diligence: Journal of the Liberty University Online Religion Capstone in Research and Scholarship

As the 2018 State of Theology survey reports, American adults today are divided nearly in half over their beliefs on biblical inerrancy. However, without knowing how the Bible expects to be understood it is impossible to formulate an educated opinion on this issue. The purpose of this study is to present the Bible’s position on its own inerrancy, that it is completely inerrant in all its parts because it is entirely “God-breathed.”

Teaching Magis At College: Meaning, Mission, And Moral Responsibility, Marcus Mescher 2018 Xavier University

Teaching Magis At College: Meaning, Mission, And Moral Responsibility, Marcus Mescher

Jesuit Higher Education: A Journal

Jesuit colleges and universities highlight terms like magis to accentuate the specific charism of Jesuit education. But when these words and phrases are separated from their context in Ignatian spirituality and the mission of the Society of Jesus, they risk becoming banal jargon. When magis is properly understood and effectively taught, it provides a fundamental horizon of meaning, calls everyone to partner in the mission of Jesuit education, and empowers faculty, staff, and students to embrace moral responsibility in a world marked by sin and suffering. In the praxis of teaching magis, contemplation, imagination, and vocation discernment are three steps ...

Crossroads Retreat: A Spiritual Discernment Journey For Those Facing Major Life Decision, Andrew Ranucci 2018 Fuller Theological Seminary

Crossroads Retreat: A Spiritual Discernment Journey For Those Facing Major Life Decision, Andrew Ranucci

Doctor of Ministry Projects

The topic of spiritual discernment is certainly one of the most challenging aspects of the pastoral role. Congregational members are at times presented with major decisions, placing them at the crossroads of life. Assisting such parishioners, to discern the will of God, is a fundamentally important element of the pastoral role.

This project proposes a Spiritual Discernment Retreat, which seeks to synthesize wisdom on discernment from the early desert dwellers, St. Ignatius Loyola and Dallas Willard. These writings are highly regarded for their insight into discernment. Focusing on their combined wisdom will provide a trustworthy foundation spanning two millennia, thus ...

Christ-Centered Worship: Five New Testament Principles For The Korean Church, Hallellu Choi 2018 Liberty University

Christ-Centered Worship: Five New Testament Principles For The Korean Church, Hallellu Choi

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The Protestant church of South Korea witnessed remarkable growth since the Gospel was first preached in Korea in the nineteenth century; growth in the second half of the twentieth century was particularly strong. The Presbyterian church in South Korea, however, experienced decline since 1995: this was mainly due to Christians’ lack of good influence toward the non-Christians in their lives. Their good influence on non-Christians in the world can be restored first by re-educating them with biblical principles of worship and by encouraging them to live out those principles. The purpose of this thesis is to suggest five principles of ...

Reclaiming A Biblical Sexual Ethic: How A Renewed Understanding Of The Doctrine Of The Image Of God Is An Important Response To The Ideas Of The Sexual Revolution And The Self-Esteem Movement, Sarah Stewart 2018 Liberty University

Reclaiming A Biblical Sexual Ethic: How A Renewed Understanding Of The Doctrine Of The Image Of God Is An Important Response To The Ideas Of The Sexual Revolution And The Self-Esteem Movement, Sarah Stewart

Masters Theses

Sexual ethics have become a large source of debate in modern America and will continue as American sexual mores become more progressive. The church in America also faces the issue of how to respond to issues caused by changes in American sexual ethics. These changes, however, have not been greatly beneficial to society. While debates about sexual ethics are not new, the debate has reemerged in modern society, primarily as the result of two movements, the Sexual Revolution and the Self-esteem Movement. Both of these movements shifted belief in human value away from inherent value, as a result of humans ...

The Myth Of “Righteous Anger” What The Bible Says About Human Anger, Jeffrey Gibbs 2018 Concordia Seminary, St. Louis

The Myth Of “Righteous Anger” What The Bible Says About Human Anger, Jeffrey Gibbs

ConcordiaPages

It is hard not to draw the conclusion that we live in a society that is characterized by constant anger and outrage. While it may not be unique to our current age, what is new is the way in which social media has provided a megaphone for expressing our anger, often to shame others into thinking and acting in ways we find acceptable. Of course, Christians are not immune either to feelings of anger (in so far as we are shaped by original sin) or the use of social media to express our outrage (in so far as we are ...
