Paul's Vision Of The Risen Lord, Brian Schmisek

Paul, the one New Testament author who states clearly that Jesus appeared to him, has been cited as one who understood the resurrection of Jesus as fleshly, or physical. This article examines whether Paul himself understood the result of what happened to Jesus after his death to be a physical reality akin to the return of Jesus alive in the flesh. By investigating the three passages in which Paul refers to his own life-changing experience of the risen Christ (Gal 1:16; 1 Cor 9:1; 1 Cor 15:8), the article shows that there is just as much evidence to argue that …

Wisdom Christology: How Jesus Becomes God's Wisdom For Us, Daniel J. Ebert
Faculty Books
The Explorations in Biblical Theology series addresses the need for quality literature that attracts believing readers to good theology and builds there up in their faith. Each title in the series combines solid content with accessibility and readability-a valuable addition to the library of any college student, thoughtful lay reader, seminarian, or pastor.
What is true wisdom? While contemporary culture locates it in self-absorption, the first-century apostles revealed how wisdom is located supremely in Jesus Christ. Daniel Ebert explains how Old Testament wisdom motifs are not only appropriated in New Testament Christology but also far surpassed in God's Son.

Redemptive Leadership, C. William Pollard
C. William Pollard Papers
Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary hosted its "Salting the Workplace - How?" seminar in 2011. For his speech at the workshop, Pollard chose the topic of redemptive leadership, which he understands as being fundamentally concerned with the development of the human person. This type of leadership can never be divorced from the ultimate questions, i.e. those pertaining to God and faith.

Book Review: Walking Gently On The Earth, Melanie Springer Mock
Faculty Publications - Department of English
Excerpt: "For that reason, I approached Walking Gently on the Earth with a healthy sense of skepticism, ready to be preached at again regarding the choices I’ve made about my family and lifestyle. Yet a few pages into Lisa Graham McMinn’s new book, I knew this exploration of sustainability would be different: more gentle, as the title itself suggests. McMinn, along with her daughter and co-writer Megan Anna Neff, examines the ways we can more readily nurture “God’s good gift”—that is, the earth and everything in it— through what McMinn calls “an ethic of care.” Although McMinn and Neff challenge …

Speaking at a ministry conference hosted by Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (Boston, MA), Pollard contends that profit can be considered virtuous when it allows servant leaders to invest in employees, thereby contributing to the moral and spiritual formation of human beings.

Business As A Calling Of God (Boston), C. William Pollard
C. William Pollard Papers
Pollard addressed the 2011 Boston Business Breakfast alongside Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary's David Gill. In his address, he spoke of how the 2008-2009 financial collapse had caused many to ask whether businesses could make money while also being moral communities. For Pollard, this is possible only if leaders focus first on people rather than profit, a reorientation of priority which will require a transformation in how businesses are run and how future corporate managers are educated.

Reasonable Conversions: Susanna Rowan's Mentoria And Conversion Narratives For Young Readers, Karen Roggenkamp

Though not well known, Rowson's Mentoria-a curious conglomeration of thematically-related pieces from multiple genres, including the essay, epistolary novel, conduct book, and fairy tale-offers particularly fertile ground for thinking about the nexus between eighteenth-century didactic books and earlier works for young readers.2 At the heart of Mentoria is a series of letters describing girls who yield, with dire and frequently deadly consequences, to the passionate pleas of male suitors.3 Fallen women populate Rowson's world, and scholars have traditionally read Mentoria within the familiar bounds of the eighteenth-century seduction novel.4 However, Rowson's creation transforms the older tradition of didactic, child-centered conversion …
