One of the most widely used interactive channels today is the electronic discussion board. This new medium is used as part of feedback-seeking channels. There are two unique characteristics, it does not require the physical presence of anyone and it does not require the simultaneous presence of anyone for feedback-seeking activities to occur. Educational practitioners have also begun to capitalize on these characteristics in their scheme of course assessment. In this study, the threaded electronic discussion board has been incorporated into part of the assessment activities for postgraduate courses. The study aims to investigate how this medium is utilized by ...

Gay And Lesbian Elders: History, Law, And Identity Politics In The United States, Nancy J. Knauer
Nancy J. Knauer
The approximately two million gay and lesbian elders in the United States are an underserved and understudied population. At a time when gay men and lesbians enjoy an unprecedented degree of social acceptance and legal protection, many elders face the daily challenges of aging isolated from family, detached from the larger gay and lesbian community, and ignored by mainstream aging initiatives. Drawing on materials from law, history, and social theory, this book integrates practical proposals for reform with larger issues of sexuality and identity. Beginning with a summary of existing demographic data and offering a historical overview of pre-Stonewall views ...

Bookbinding & Conservation: A Sixty-Year Odyssey Of Art And Craft By Don Etherington, Peter D. Verheyen
Peter D Verheyen
For those involved with bookbinding, book conservation, or with the Guild of Book Workers, Don Etherington needs no introduction – he has served as a teacher, mentor, and friend. Now, with Bookbinding & Conservation: A Sixty-year Odyssey of Art and Craft we can read about how he came to enter this field, was influenced by his teachers and mentors, and how he helped shape the world of bookbinding and conservation.
"Bookbinding & Conservation: A Sixty-year Odyssey of Art and Craft" contains a forward by Bernard Middleton, another leader in the field, and one who needs little introduction himself. It is divided into the ...

The Raat Project: Alternatives To Using Animals In Research, Melissa J. Boyde, Denise Russell

One of the hidden pockets of animal cruelty in Western culture is in the scientific laboratories that use animals in experiments. Currently there are about 6 million animals used in experiments each year in Australia (Singer 2009). The vision of the Replace Animals in Australian Testing (RAAT) project is to reduce the number of animals used in scientific experiments and medical research in Australia. We are developing a network of researchers and other individuals or groups interested in advocating non-animal based research and in strengthening the Australian Government/NHMRC guidelines for animal testing. In 2008 we launched the RAAT website ...

I designed the posters 'Juárez: Once a City, Now Statistics' and 'Stop the Violence in Juárez' originally for 'Peace of Art: Design for Change' (www.peaceofartshow.org). This exhibit presents posters of social protest designed by professional and student designers to create awareness of the situation of violence in Cd, Juarez. To give a face to the violence and help people understand that the violence changes people’s lives. It is a display of Peace and/or protest on both sides of the border. More importantly, Peace of Art raises funds that will aid Cd. Juarez victims and their families ...

Designed and helped to install the exhibit 'El Paso: The Other Side of the Mexcian Revolution' on display on display October 1, 2010 to January 10, 2011 at the El Paso Museum of History. This bilingual exhibit's content was created by faculty and students of UTEP's Department of History and coincided with the 2010 100th anniversary of the start of the Mexican Revolution.
