Subversive Beauty - Victorian Bodies Of Expression, 2014 University of South Florida
Subversive Beauty - Victorian Bodies Of Expression, Lisa Michelle Hoffman-Reyes
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Abstract
My dissertation seeks to bring aesthetics into conversation with the epistemological concerns of three Victorian texts, in response to the prevalence of beautiful feminine faces and bodies in Victorian texts, their presence amplified through the use of copious description. I examines the ways that Thomas Hardy, Oscar Wilde, and Robert Browning complicate traditional contemporary assumptions regarding behaviors and moralities through their constructions of feminine beauty. These writers challenge and dispute a variety of Victorian social norms imposed upon both men and women, most notably the mandate to adhere to prescribed behaviors that codify in order to regulate gender normativity. …

Research Exercise: S&P 500 Sector Weights: The Case For Inverse Relative Price Strength, 2014 University of Dayton
Research Exercise: S&P 500 Sector Weights: The Case For Inverse Relative Price Strength
Stander Symposium Projects
In this study, I used a relative price strength model called the Inverse Relative Price Strength (IRPS) to develop a portfolio of 10 sector exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and then compared their performance to the overall market. I used the IRPS model as a proxy for the return risk optimizing process developed by Markowitz et, al. The hypothesis that I am testing is that sectors with lower relative prices compared to the market will have higher excess returns. The hypothesis is tested over the period 2008-2012. This particular period is highly volatile with large swings in both actual and relative prices. …

Environmental Systems And Patterns Applied To Design, 2014 Western Michigan University
Environmental Systems And Patterns Applied To Design, Aaron Cooper
Honors Theses
Looking at the variety of organic form in a natural setting is always an eye opening experience. Seeing how those forms are based on a common system in the environment is even more amazing. Applying the concept of form driven by ratios in the environment to design layout seems like a common sense approach to functional design, yet this is not a common solution in modern design.
Organic form looks organic because it is a product of the environment it is from. If a page is the originating environment for content with a specific function, the content should look like …

Tim Key And Gogol's Overcoat: Review 2, 2014 NRK, Norwegian Broadcasting Organisation
Tim Key And Gogol's Overcoat: Review 2, Kari Hesthamar
RadioDoc Review
The documentary Tim Key and Gogol’s Overcoat is based on the short story The Overcoat by Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol. The Ukrainian-born Russian was one of the major authors of the 19th century, who tried to demonstrate what Tsarist Russia entailed. The Overcoat, published in 1842, is a satire of the civil service and petty officialdom. It is about how an external object transforms a person's self-esteem and others' opinions of a man of low rank.
As the program unfolds, the boundaries between fact and fiction become more blurred, and the weave between St Petersburg and London, between Akaky Akakievich (protagonist …
