Voix/Voies De L’Exil Dans La Fiancée Était À Dos D’Âne De Vénus Khoury-Ghata, May FAROUK SAYED ABDELMOHAYMEN TANTAWY 2023 Department of french language and literature - faculty of arts- Cairo University

Voix/Voies De L’Exil Dans La Fiancée Était À Dos D’Âne De Vénus Khoury-Ghata, May Farouk Sayed Abdelmohaymen Tantawy

Journal of the Faculty of Arts (JFA)

Mechanics Of Polyphony In Mécaniques Du Chaos: Study Of Pragmatic Functions Of Language Contact, Fatma Achour

Journal of the Faculty of Arts (JFA)

Abstract: This study focuses on aspects of polyphony in the French novel Mécaniques du chaos (2017) written by Daniel Rondeau. This linguistic phenomenon refers to combination of various voices in same sentence. These voices emerge from enunciate utterances of which the responsibility is taken by narrator and persons of the history. We tend to focus on pragmatic functions of language contact in this literary enunciation, and in particular, those which produce the polyphony. Language contact is happened by two ways: intertextuality and non-coincidence of discourse. We then detail the subsequent layers of discursive movements that consist of narrative and direct …

L’Année De Bacchus D’El Mostafa Bouignane Entre Devoir De La Mémoire Et Exaltation De La Vie, Abdelkbir Jourji

Dirassat

This study will discuss the approach to the structure and narrative composition of the novel entitled L'année de Bacchus by Mostafa Bouignane, published by Virgule Editions in 2020. This text adds to a series of stories of which Bouignane constructs a narrative universe to reveal the nature of man who, even submissive and reduced, remains capable of regaining his freedom and leading a peaceful life. Thus, our study will propose an analysis of the ideological and historical dimension of this text representative of the literary experience of the author, then at the end the questioning of his human and moral …

Performance Et Rituel Au Maroc: Un Mariage Incestueux, Zineb Amrani 2023 Doctorante, Faculté des Lettres et des Sciences Humaines, Université Ibn Zohr, Agadir, Maroc

Performance Et Rituel Au Maroc: Un Mariage Incestueux, Zineb Amrani

Dirassat

Confined to religion, mythology and the field of the supernatural, the performative dimension of ritual practices was neglected. Looking at ritual through the prism of Performance Studies means shifting the gaze to the context, gesture, play and communication rather than focusing on the cognitive dimension of actors and the textual dimension of Aristotelian theater. It is therefore in order to understand this conceptual effervescence that breaks with the cartesian doctrine, opposing the cognitive and the social, on the one hand, and the cognitive and the action, on the other hand, that we have chosen to devote the present article to …

Mise En Scène D’Un Espace En Devenir: De L’Espace Défraichi À L’Espace Métamorphose, Ismail MADANI ALAOUI 2023 Faculté des Lettres et des Sciences Humaines, Agadir, Maroc

Mise En Scène D’Un Espace En Devenir: De L’Espace Défraichi À L’Espace Métamorphose, Ismail Madani Alaoui

Dirassat

This study takes an interdisciplinary approach. It calls on semiotics, geography and communication. And according to R. Barthes who says “whoever would like to outline a semiotics of the city should be at the same time semiologist (specialists in signs), geographer, historian, urban planner, architect and probably psychoanalyst”. To carry out this study, we have chosen the city of Guelmim as an example of analysis. We start from a corpus of images to see to what extent does the semiotics of space account for the intelligibility of the city? Can it be perceived as a significant and attractive approach in …

La Traduction Des Expressions Idiomatiques Par Équivalent Idiomatique, Chakib LBAIDI, Amal ARRAME 2023 ESRFT, Tanger, Maroc

La Traduction Des Expressions Idiomatiques Par Équivalent Idiomatique, Chakib Lbaidi, Amal Arrame

Dirassat

Fixed expression and idioms are part of the translated discourse. They are ready-made constructions that summarize an idea or a concept by using outstanding formulas. Translate these expressions is a big challenge for the translator. Thus, a well done translation does not mean mastering the linguistic skills of both languages, since the text does not contain just linguistic facts. It is also about culture, emotions, connotations, style and the author’s genius. Formulaic language often presents significant issue in translation just as well as finding a fixed expression as equivalent.

The skill of communication is a notion that attracts attention of specialists. They believe it is the most important element of learning foreign languages. In fact, the main objective of teaching is achieving effective communication and being able to use the appropriate linguistic form to each situation. We are contributing to make theater as a means to teaching in FLE classes.

Teaching French Civilization And Culture Through A Multicultural Perspective In The Classrooms Of French Language Students In Jordanian Universities, Samer Ali Al-Hammouri 2023 Department of Modern Languages, Al Zaytoonah University, Amman, Jordan.

Teaching French Civilization And Culture Through A Multicultural Perspective In The Classrooms Of French Language Students In Jordanian Universities, Samer Ali Al-Hammouri

Association of Arab Universities Journal for Arts مجلة اتحاد الجامعات العربية للآداب

With the advent of the communicative methodology, the goal of learning and teaching foreign languages is to acquire a communicative skill aimed at making students able to behave appropriately when communicating with speakers of these languages. This communicative skill is not limited to grammatical or linguistic aspects, but also includes cultural elements that seem to be of great importance. Through our experience, it seems to us that the practices of learning and teaching French as a foreign language, in the Jordanian university context, do not give an important place to cultural elements. This study aims to encourage teachers to focus …

The Little City Of Louis-Benoît Picard: The Turning Point From Illusion To Disappointment, Ahmad Al-Btoush

Association of Arab Universities Journal for Arts مجلة اتحاد الجامعات العربية للآداب

This study aims to clarify the concept of illusion and try to explain the interplay between appearance and truth in an attempt to highlight the transformation of illusion into disappointment in Louis-Benoît Picard’s 1801 play The Little City. Picard’s heroes, as in almost all of his dramatic works, oscillate between two situations: the inherited and preconceived appearance (illusion) and the discovered and experienced reality (disappointment). This may be a constant doubt about the reality of appearances. This article attempts to explain these two positions established by the playwright in the play so that this duality pushes us to concretize our …

War On Humor: Killing Laughter In Times Of Strife, Maria Christina Kardash

CAFE Symposium 2023

This project explores the use of humor as a coping mechanism throughout the first World War. It focuses on three main aspects: (1) the evolution of humor prior to, contemporary to, and after WWI; (2) the contrast between Germany's strict oppression of humor and France's more free approach; (3) and the distinction between civilian and soldier humor.

Political Economy In Lettres D'Une Péruvienne: Françoise De Graffigny As Philosophe And Reformer, Marguerite J. Van Cook

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

This dissertation identifies the significant presence of political economics in Lettres d’une Péruvienne by Françoise de Graffigny, née Françoise d'Issembourg du Buisson d'Happencourt (1695 –1758), to affirm its author as a pioneer in the field. It explores Graffigny’s use of the sentimental novel as a vehicle to carry those ideas to the reading community. It reviews Graffigny’s preparation to propose novel ideas in the area of political economics and to fully participate in the then-emergent discourse with her male contemporaries. Her wide reading in the subject of Political Economy, from Voltaire to Mandeville and Montesquieu and her interactions with contemporaries …

Sensing A Way Out Of René Char's "Historian's Hovel", Jennifer Pap 2023 University of Denver

Sensing A Way Out Of René Char's "Historian's Hovel", Jennifer Pap

Studies in 20th & 21st Century Literature

René Char, like many other twentieth-century writers, faced the dilemma of how to write adequately about historical atrocity, and key moments in his writing about violence display this. In the context of post-World War I disillusionment, rising Fascism, and post-World War II calculations of those who vied for power, he also criticized bad faith iterations of History. However, a number of texts in his Feuillets d’Hypnos ('Leaves of Hypnos,') published in 1946 and written during his participation in the Resistance, assert an alternative history in which aesthetic, ethical, and political experience were linked. With the post-war return to …

“Measuring Silences” In The Translation Of Awa Thiam's La Parole Aux Négresses, Amanda Walker Johnson 2023 University of Massachusetts - Amherst

“Measuring Silences” In The Translation Of Awa Thiam's La Parole Aux Négresses, Amanda Walker Johnson

Studies in 20th & 21st Century Literature

An overlooked, yet significant text in the genealogy of intersectionality and Black feminist theory is Awa Thiam’s 1978 text La Parole aux Négresses. This paper examines the ways that the English translation, Speak Out, Black Sisters: Feminism and Oppression in Black Africa, though widening the audience for Thiam’s work, engages in various practices of erasure that undermine Thiam’s academic authority, theoretical contributions, activist insights, and ultimately, her own voice. Namely, I contend that these practices, which scholars have linked to receptions and English translations of Black Francophone texts in particular, include de-formalization, domestication, de-philosophizing, untracing, and invisibilisation. I seek not …

Translating The Francophone Caribbean: Centering Black Production, Decentering Translation Practices, Nathan H. Dize, Charly Verstraet

Studies in 20th & 21st Century Literature

In her article, “A Tree as a Record: On Translating Mahagony by Edouard Glissant,” translator Betsy Wing recounts how Martinican writer Edouard Glissant expressed his disinclination to respond to translators’ questions and justified his intention by saying, “I wrote it once, now it’s your turn to write it” (124). According to Glissant, translating and writing are similar in nature. The art of translation therefore does not lie in the process of translating words into another language but in the skill to compose a text anew, that is to say to develop unique ways of ‘writing’ and therefore to deconstruct the …
