You Never Really Leave, 2023 University of Nebraska-Lincoln
You Never Really Leave, John Kuligowski
Department of English: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
YOU NEVER REALLY LEAVE is a thesis which consists in a critical introduction that broadly explores my experience of creating a short story collection, as well as the ensuing collection of five short stories. The critical introduction examines the form and content of the following stories, as well as the influences that have been instrumental to my writing. It furnishes details about themes and subject matter which have been consistent in my fiction thus far, and it depicts some of the motivations behind it. The stories themselves range from a realist mode to what has been labeled by other writers …
Wellness Review 2022, Part 2, 2023 University of Louisville
Wellness Review 2022, Part 2, Martin Huecker, Brian A. Ferguson, Jacob Shreffler
Journal of Wellness
Introduction: Similar to prior reviews, the Journal of Wellness editors searched the literature from the second half of 2022 for an interesting and impactful selection of publications on wellness in healthcare professionals.
Methods: Editors conducted a standard keyword search in Pubmed, focusing chiefly on large journals, interventional trials, and other prospective research. We included papers published between July 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022.
Literature in Review: Finding several hundred publications, we excluded editorials, reviews, and some smaller, less generalizable papers. A final 25 significant studies focusing on wellness in medical professionals were sorted into the following categories: logistics, creativity …

Crossing The Boundaries: Integrating Poetry Writing With Translation Practice, 2023 Yangzhou University
Crossing The Boundaries: Integrating Poetry Writing With Translation Practice, Xia Fang
Journal of Creative Writing Studies
How is poetry translation essentially different from poetry writing? Poetry writing pertains primarily to the acquisition of a main skills set, for instance the mastery of poetic forms and of literary devices. At the writing level, how does translation correlate with poetry writing? On the one hand, poetry translation predominantly grapples with losses and gains due to incongruities and constraints rooted in poetic forms. Either choosing to comply with or digressing from a certain poetic form remains a constant issue that poetry translation incontrovertibly addresses; the outcome of such often involving rewriting. On the other hand, the practice of poetry …

Adapting The Classics: Making The Invisible Visible, 2023 Ursinus College
Adapting The Classics: Making The Invisible Visible, Kate Isabel Foley
Theater Honors Papers
This project seeks to answer the question, “How can a writer use an old story to shine new light on modern issues and make the invisible visible?” My adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is a genderbent retelling with queer themes while my adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan is a dark reimagining of Mrs. Darling as an antihero protagonist who must become Captain Hook to try to save her children. Both my research and these two plays focus on bringing visibility to marginalized communities, specifically women and members of the queer community.

A Seasonal Quartet Of Quilts: A Fiber Art Reflection Of Life Growing Up In Maine In Each Of The 4 Seasons, Isabelle King
HON 499 Honors Thesis or Creative Project
In this paper I will outline the process and inspiration behind my creation of a quartet of quilts, each one based on one season which serves as a reflection of my life growing up in Maine in those seasons. I will begin by examining the societal and personal experiences that have influenced my relationship with quilt making, before moving into discussing how the COVID-19 Pandemic changed these perspectives. Next I will examine the work of fiber artist Anni Albers and how her work was influenced by WW1 and her contribution to the feminist presence in the modernist movement, how her …
