Everything, Everything Seemed Once-Upon-A-Time, Denisse Leung Liu

CGU MFA Theses

The pleasant feeling of being relaxed is what I want the viewer to feel with my work. The art I make is the source of peacefulness and tranquility I treasure, in a way that there is tranquility and absence of noise, yet it whispers quietly to the viewer.

CGU MFA Theses

I make my work to create an experience for the viewer, so that they can have their own experience of their world. Their bodies interact with my pieces to re-recognize themselves and their lives. In this experience their body is independent of everything else but their awareness. Their sense of movement, their vision and their tactile sensations come together into my artwork for them to have their own experience. This is what I call self-body awareness.

Statement:
I’ve been blessed with an extremely extensive travel log that exposed me to a broad scope of cultures, and more importantly, their art. A few years ago after returning from an especially inspiring trip to rural India, I began creating mandalas. At first these mandalas incorporated other classic Indian designs and patterns, similar to a henna tattoo. Overtime, I found solace in getting lost in creating mandala patterns and tuning out the rest of the world.

“It’s coming, a calmness of thought. It has to be.” These were often Tom’s words and most certainly always his thoughts. “The critical mass of media cannot sustain its frequency.” So for that we will be grateful, and for Tom’s final wishes, I am grateful too. ~excerpt from prose

Just Dial Zero (Excerpt), Megan Lynn

Welcome to Paradise.

The scent of stale booze, fresh urine and dejection washed over her as she opened the glass door with a crack carefully patched by a duct tape diagonal slash. A small bell jingled above her head. She wondered where anyone would go. ~excerpt from prose

Easy, Vernisha Tavares

It was easy wasn’t it?

Being young and free.

Nothing could hold you back.

The world was yours to own. To conquer. ~excerpt from poem
